One of my favorite weekends of the year, the event showcased several great matchups and dozens of intriguing prospects. Here are some of my top Forwards from the Showcase:
Simeon Junior Khaniah Gardner Khaniah Gardner 6'2" | PF Simeon | 2021 State IL was fantastic in her teams win over the Fenwick Friars. Gardner, a 6’2” Forward, collected the majority of her 22 points in the paint, both in the half court and in the transition game. She runs the floor extremely well and really uses her length and athleticism to get easy buckets.
Elise Heneghan Elise Heneghan 6'0" | PF Fenwick | 2022 State IL from Fenwick showed some great flashes against a tough Simeon frontcourt. The 6’0” Sophomore primarily plays in the post, but she is very skilled with the ball and can hit shots from deep. Heneghan had a team-high 17 points against Simeon.
Heneghan’s 6’1” teammate Audrey Hinrichs Audrey Hinrichs 6'1" | PF Fenwick | 2022 State IL is another dominant post player for the Friars. Hinrichs, another Sophomore, is skilled as well but she does great work on the block, where she collected the majority of her 16 points. Her footwork and ability to create open looks for herself is very tough for opposing post players to defend.
Barrington Senior standout Taylor Thompson Taylor Thompson 5'8" | PF Barrington | 2020 State IL was absolutely dominant in a win over Plainfield Central, putting up 31 points. The 6’0” Missouri-Saint Louis commit is strong down low and knows how to use her body to get good position. Thompson excels in the paint, but also showed a nice jumper, hitting on multiple threes and mid-range shots throughout the game.
Grace LaBarge Grace LaBarge 6'2" | SF Fremd | 2021 State IL from Fremd was excellent in a win over Aurora Christian, totaling 12 points for the game. The 6’3” Junior has great length in the post to score over a lot of defenders and bring down rebounds. LaBarge also stretches the floor well with her ability to hit shots from deep consistently.
Bolingbrook’s Treasure Thompson Treasure Thompson 6'3" | C Bolingbrook | 2020 State IL was big in an impressive win over Milwaukee King from Wisconsin. The 6’2” LSU commit has a great combination of length and athleticism to create mismatches in the post. She handles the ball well and has nice touch in the mid-range game, but when she gets the ball on the block, she’s tough to stop one-on-one.
Benet Senior and Wisconsin commit Brooke Schramek Brooke Schramek 6'1" | PF Benet Academy | 2020 State IL was terrific in a close loss to Dowling Catholic from Iowa. The 6’1” Forward can play all five spots on the floor, but she was nearly unstoppable on the block in this one. Several times, Schramek was able to beat her opponent in the high-post and convert at the rim. She finished with 23 points in the loss.
