One of my favorite weekends of the year, the event showcased several great matchups and dozens of intriguing prospects. Here are some of my top Point Guards from the Showcase:
Butler Prep’s Camille Jackson continues to thrive at the PG position. The 5’11” Sophomore is a strong Guard with a good handle who is tough to stay in front of. She has a mature game with excellent court vision and makes the necessary plays. Jackson has a good shot from deep, but her control and ability to finish in the lane really stood out on Saturday.
Dylan VanFleet from Maine West is one of the toughest on-ball defenders in the state. Her quick feet and ability to poke the ball free off the dribble are hard to match. The 5’8” Senior excels in the transition game and can knock down shots from mid-range and long distance throughout the game.
Stagg Sophomore Laila Barakat continues to make her presence known on big stages. The 5’4” speedy PG is nearly impossible to keep up with, with her quickness and crafty handles. Barakat’s a well-rounded lead guard who can run the offense and get teammates involved, or she can attack the paint and knock down shots from deep off the dribble.
This was my first time watching Oak Forest Junior Lexie Matthews, and she is such a fun player to watch. The 5’5” PG plays with a ton of energy on both ends and provides a constant spark. Matthews has a strong handle and likes to attack the rim, but showed she can knock down shots from outside as well.
Bolingbrook Sophomore Kennedi Perkins had another great outing in a tough matchup against Milwaukee King. The 5’6” PG scored her 14 points in a variety of ways, having success in transition and shooting the ball. Perkins is also one to give opposing PG’s fits on the defensive end with her terrific on-ball defense.
Fremd Senior Emily Klaczek had a nice outing on the offensive end against Aurora Christian. The 5’10” UAB commit used her size and strength well in the lane and shot the ball well from three-point land. Klaczek finished with 13 points on the day.
Howard University commit Cashay Dixon from Simeon was a ton of fun to watch in her teams’ impressive win over a good Fenwick squad. The 5’8” PG thrived in the transition game, making great decisions to find an open teammate or convert at the hoop herself. Dixon had 12 points in the win.
