Seffner Christian – 91, West Port – 68
Miami Norland – 49, Southeast (Bradenton) – 43
Plant – 76, Lakewood – 43
Some of the standout players from the second day of action are as follows:
CC Mays – Seffner Christian – Sr.
CC did all of her damage in the first 3 quarters in a big win over West Port. She scored 21 with no one being able to stop her to the rim or on her jumper. CC always brings a lot of energy and hustle to her team. She’s committed to Marshall, and she has all of the tools to make an immediate impact there.
KK Davis – Seffner Christian – Sr.
KK also only played in the first three quarters in a big win, but she managed to score 17 with that tough left hand. She’s a quick player who knows when to score it and when to dish it. As one of the top true PG’s in the state, she’s a big get for Western Carolina.
Kali Barber – Seffner Christian – Sr.
I really like Kali’s game and her energy as well. She is a good shooter who can also get to the hoop and hit that mid-range jumper. Kali finished with 14 points in their win, and she’s a player that anyone would want on their team with her hustle and leadership abilities. She’ll be playing at Maine Maritime next season which will be a great fit for her.
Tajah Spaulding – Seffner Christian – Jr.
Tajah didn’t score until the 4th quarter after suffering an injury that drew some blood. She ended up putting 14 points on the board in a hurry though. Tajah can score from all three levels and is a quality piece on this loaded Crusaders team.
Nini Davenport – Seffner Christian – Fr.
Nini hit five 3’s in another multi-trey game. She has a great shot and plays a big role in this team’s success. Nini plays hard on defense and helps handle the ball on offense too. She can catch fire quickly from long range.
Sydney James – West Port – Sr.
Sydney put on another impressive performance in day two with 27 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists. She hit six 3’s and kept her team in the game until the third quarter. Sydney has a great frame and a long stride that will serve her well in the future. I got a chance to talk with her, and she’s a smart kid with a good head on her shoulders that should accomplish great things at Furman.
Jayce Williams – West Port – So.
Another member of the Wolf Pack that impressed me this weekend was this young guard. She went 6 for 7 from the field on day two with 13 points. Jayce is a quick, crafty guard who sees the court and has nice handles. She also had 8 assists and 2 steals in the game against Seffner Christian. She’s a player that should be on everyone’s radar as an underclassmen.
Ronaltha Marc – Miami Norland – Sr.
Norland held off a scrappy Southeast team after being down 6 at halftime thanks to their strong trio. Ronaltha just received her first offer from Nova Southeastern, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she gets more in the coming months. She has a strong frame and good size with the ability to play outside of the lane. Ronaltha finished with a strong double-double of 12 points and 12 boards in the win against Southeast.
Jaiyah Harris-Smith – Miami Norland – Jr.
Jaiyah was impressive again on the second day. She showcased more of her shooting stroke with four 3’s (4 for 6 beyond the arc) in an 18 point performance. Jaiyah also had 8 rebounds and brings a lot of spirit to this team by handling the ball and being the primary scorer for the Vikings.
Jamyla Mensah-Bell – Miami Norland – Sr.
Jamyla posted a really nice stat line on Saturday with 12 points, 7 boards, 5 assists, and 2 steals. She scored some big buckets when her team needed them, and she took very good care of the ball running the point. Jamyla was very smooth with the ball and made some tough shots around the hoop with a soft touch.
Kymani Freeman – Southeast – Fr.
This Freshman played very well against Norland on both ends of the floor. Kymani had 13 points with a pair of three’s and made some really crafty moves around the rim. She’s continuing to get more playing time and has a bright future for a team that only loses two seniors.
Honor Culpepper – Plant – Sr.
Honor is one of the best unsigned seniors left in the state. She’s having a terrific season back from injury, and this team is looking dangerous. Against Lakewood, Honor went 3 for 6 from behind the arc and had 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists. She is a spunky player who shoots it well, finds her teammates, and handles the ball under pressure.
Kendal Cheesman – Plant – Jr.
This might have been the best individual performance I’ve seen this year. Kendal scored 32 points and pulled down 15 boards in an impressive display. She had it all going on for Saturday’s game from her mid-range game to her outside shot to her finishing multiple And 1’s. Kendal even blocked a couple shots in this dominant performance. Cheesman is the real deal.
Nyla Jean – Plant – Jr.
Nyla is a different type of point guard than KK Davis, but they are both two of the best in Florida. Nyla had a great game on Saturday with 19 points, 7 rebounds (5 offensive), 5 steals, and 3 blocks. She’s all over the place and seems to have her hand in every play on both ends. She’s quick and has nice bounce which makes her tough to score on as you can see with her steals and blocks. Nyla is a smart player who can dictate the flow and speed of the game which is key for running the offense.
Kayla Sieper – Plant – Sr.
Kayla was just one rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and 9 rebounds. She played tough and has a very good mid-range game, but she can score from anywhere at 6’2. Loyola Maryland is getting a very capable baller in Kayla. Plant has all of the pieces to make some noise in the postseason.
