We’ve turned the calendar to 2020 and it won’t be long before we start to talk about the state tournament draw and the Road to Rupp. While there are no shortage of games this week and weekend, I wanted to take a minute to single out some impressive Senior performers.
Kendall Wingler, Meade County – Wingler is having a ridiculous season scoring the basketball. She leads the state by 7 points over the next closest scorer with 32.3 PPG, Kendall is shooting 90% from the free throw line and shooting 43% from behind the three point line. You can make a case that Wingler isn’t getting enough respect as a potential Miss Basketball winner.
Lexy Meyers, Leslie County – Meyers doesn’t get a ton of help but that shouldn’t diminish the big season she’s having. Second in Kentucky in scoring at 25.9 per game, shooting an amazing 90% from the free throw line, making a state high 4.1 threes per game while shooting 35% from downtown are all reasons to recognize the big season Lexy is having.
Hope Sivori, Mercy – Her teammate TT Jenks gets the headlines but Hope is having a big time season herself. She’s 4th in the state in scoring at 24.2 PPG and she’s making almost 4 three pointers per game while shooting 41% from downtown. At 80% from the free throw line, Sivori is more than capable of icing games at the FT line.
Hannah McKay, Owensboro Catholic – Hannah is having a very strong Senior season already and looks like she could get Catholic back to Rupp in March. McKay is averaging 19.8 points and 9.9 rebounds per game while shooting a tremendous 54% from the field and 80% from the FT line while making 4.5 per game at the charity stripe.
Charlee Settle, Calloway County – The future Murray State racer is having an outstanding Senior season thus far. Not only is Calloway a real threat to win the 1st region, but Charlee is 16th in the state in scoring (20.5), 8th in rebounding (12.2) and is living at the FT line, making 82% of her tries while getting to the line almost 8 times per game.
Celia Pelfrey, Dixie Heights – Pelfrey is quietly putting together the most impressive three point shooting season of anyone in the state. Through 11 games, Pelfrey is shooting nearly 51% from three and 53% from the field. Her three point numbers are even better when you consider that she’s making 3.5 attempts per game.
Shelby Calhoun, Christian Academy of Louisville – Cal is 12-2 and looking like one of the top teams in the state. Calhoun is a big reason why. Shelby is averaging a double-double with 14.9 points and 13.7 rebounds per game. The Virginia Tech signee is combining with her fellow Senior Mia Beam to have the Centurions on track to potentially compete for a state title.
Ashanti Gore, Glasgow – The Senior leader of the Scotties is having a HUGE year so far. Averaging 19.4 points and 12.3 rebounds put her at 26th in scoring in the state and 6th in rebounds while shooting 64% from the field makes her 10th in the state thus far. On top of that, Glasgow is 7-2 and looking like a contender in the 4th region.
