Due to the WIAA’s RPI rankings, every game matters as the regular season comes to a close. Teams are all vying for playoff positions and a top 16 RPI ranking in order to help them hopefully qualify for the regional playoffs following league playoffs and district playoffs.
4A:
1/29 17-0 Woodinville @ 15-3 Inglemoor (7:15pm)
Woodinville is just a win away from sealing up the 4A KingCo title, which has easily been one of the most competitive leagues this season. They currently sit at 17-0 overall, but Inglemoor has the toughness as talent to make it a game, as they did in their first meeting. Woodinville won 66-62, but it was no easy victory. The Falcons are led by a trio of D1 college prospects 2021 Mia Hughes, 2022 Veronica Sheffey and 2022 Tatum Thompson. The three average a combined 47 points and 23 rebounds per game. They’re well coached, tough and skilled. Inglemoor has a very balanced attack with 5 players averaging over 6.5 points per game. 2022 Colbi Zorich has seen her stock rise, leading the team in scoring and rebounding. UC San Diego signee Lucy Young has been super solid and 2021 Isabella Reed does a little bit of everything for the squad. Keep an eye out for 2023 Dulcy Solomon as well.
1/31 13-3 Bellarmine Prep @ 16-0 Rogers (7:00pm)
A matchup of two state contending programs will go down next Saturday. In the previous matchup, undefeated Rogers took down Bellarmine 62-55. Bellarmine is currently on a 7 game win streak and rolling with 2020 Lewis and Clark State signee Callie Stevens. The star senior recently scored a school record 46 points for Bellarmine. She came into the season with a reputation of being a good ball player, but she has only gotten better as the season has gone along. 2020 6’0 F Julia Bordeaux is another solid piece to balance things out with Stevens. Rogers has Washington softball signee Raigan Barrett who is skilled and tough as nails on the hardwood. She can explode for 25-30 on any given night, so the matchup between her and Callie Stevens on the other end will be very exciting!
3A:
2/7 13-2 Chiawana @ 12-1 Kennewick (5:45pm)
The game earlier this season between these two was one of the best games of the year and they will face off one more time before they split off into their playoffs for their respective class with Chiawana in 4A and Kennewick in 3A. Kennewick took the victory 52-51 last time and did their best to make 2021 super recruit Talia von Oelhoffen work for her points in order to squeeze out the win. Kennewick boasts Hawaii signee MeiLani McBee, 2020 Aislin Fiander, 2021 Avery Fiander and 2021 Madeline Gebbers. They do not have a ton of depth 6-10, but they have a lot of grit 1-5. On the other side, Chiawana’s 2022 6’0 SF Camryn Cartwright is coming off of a 23 point performance and if she can continue to contribute double digit scoring for Chiawana, that will help ease the load for von Oelhoffen. 2021 5’8 SG Delaney Pink is a spark plug that can make plays on both sides of the ball.
1/31 14-1 Eastside Catholic vs. 12-4 Garfield (6:00pm)
The long-awaited game between these two 3A heavyweights is right around the corner. Neither team has an in-state loss, but one will walk out with a loss after this game. Garfield has far more experience with 6’4 California signee Dalayah Daniels and 5’10 Michigan signee Meghan Fiso, but the young Eastside Catholic Crusaders have some serious speed and aggression behind multiple talented underclassmen. 2023 5’9 PG Mjracle Sheppard, 2023 5’5 PG Malia Samuels, 5’8 SG Isabel Sullivan, 2022 Zaihirah Walton, 2023 Imbie Jones and 2023 Amelie Sitterud will all play at the next level. The x-factor will be how Garfield handles the full-court pressure and if Dalayah is fully back healthy after injuring her ankle in one of Garfield’s games at the Nike TOC in December. This game will more than likely just be round one of multiple that they will play in league playoffs, districts and possibly state.
