Everyone’s timeline and process with recruiting is different, so it comes as no surprise to see girls that are seeing their stock rise and on the verge of attracting more or brand new college attention. I try to avoid loosely throwing around the label of “Division 1 prospect”, but these are five players I have seen that are putting themselves on the map and growing into D1 prospects right in front of our eyes.
2021 5’7 PG Andie Zylak (Lewis and Clark HS)
- For Zylak, I would go as far as to say she has “emerged” rather than emerging, but it was only a matter of time before her stock would rise. She is a solid shooter and can hit from the three and midrange. The basketball IQ and craftiness is there, which helps her get away with having a bit of a thinner frame at 5’7. If there is one area of improvement it will be strength, but she can easily add strength and will do so over time. She has a knack for drawing fouls and getting to the foul line, because she understands body positioning and angles. She competes defensively and fights around screens to the best of her ability. Zylak is coming off of a 35 point, 11 rebound, 5 assist performance against three D1 signed seniors in an upset win. Andie Zylak has officially emerged as a Division 1 prospect.
2021 5’11 SF Jaydia Martin (Hudson’s Bay HS)
- One player that has really stood out down in the Vancouver, Washington area is Jaydia Martin. She has been on our radar, but she has taken her game to another level this Winter. She is a strong athlete that can play some on the inside and outside. She is at her best as a slasher where she can catch and finish with power and skill. She has enough handle to rebound and lead the break, but her game is overall best suited on the wing where she is a good scorer and can surprise with a really nice pass here and there. Martin is the leading scorer in her area at 24 points per game and she is also hauling in 12 rebounds per game. Seeing her development in the last year has been impressive. some mid-major schools could find themselves a solid prospect at Hudson’s Bay High School. *Feature image
2021 6’0 SF Jaliyah Sampson (Rainier Beach HS)
- Another player that has been on our radar, but has steadily improved with time. Sampson has an ideal frame on the wing for the D1 level and she moves well on the floor. She has a pretty smooth shooting stroke and can hit from the three, adding to her versatility and ability to use athleticism to get to the basket. She is completely under the radar right now, but I would feel comfortable telling some schools to at least head to south Seattle to check her out. Rainier Beach does not have a strong team this year and she is asked to do a lot in a helter skelter system, but she is putting up 20-10 type numbers on a regular basis.
2022 6’4 C Elise Hani (Lake Washington HS)
- Google search Elise Hani and watch 30 seconds of her volleyball highlights as a middle blocker and it won’t take long to see why she is also emerging as a Division 1 basketball prospect. I am not a volleyball expert, but she looks like the type of player that could probably play both at certain colleges. Elise’s long reach and excellent timing allows her to block nearly 4 shots per game for Lake Washington. And yes, they look very similar to her middle blocking in volleyball. She is a consistent double double with averages of around 10 points and 12 rebounds per game. More than an athlete, I am impressed by her free throw shooting where she has shot 73% on the year. A developing post prospect with real long term potential! Division 1 coaches should definitely be making their way to see Elise and persuade her to play some college basketball.
2023 6’1 SG Macey Huard (Bear Creek HS)
- Macey has been tearing up 1A schools in her first season of high school ball. Her older sister Haley plays at Eastlake and is a Division 1 offered player herself. Macey has a chance to be very good. She has the physicality and aggression that college coaches love and her desire to get better is real. She has put up some monstrous statistics and I love her rebounding and willingness to defend multiple positions. Her shot has come along as she has dedicated herself to basketball more in the last year after years of playing high level soccer traveling the country. Macey played 17u club ball last year and took her bumps and bruises, but it has certainly paid off for her and she has emerged as a Division 1 prospect in the freshman class.
