Four Standout Players
Hope Sivori (Mercy)
The senior point guard does it again. She finished with a game-high 24 points, including 4 threes. Sivori can stroke it from behind the arc as well as driving inside the lane. Her finishing ability under the rim is really smooth. Her ball handling skills might be the best I have seen in the state. Her vision will also on display in this game as she dished out 5 assists. She is just an all-around terrific player and college coaches are going to regret not picking her up. One of the best uncommitted seniors in the state.
Lexi Taylor (Bullitt East)
The Georgetown College signee did her part in this game but Mercy did an excellent job in defending her. She finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds. She knocked down one 3-pointer but the majority of her game involved her inside the paint. With a talent like her, Bullitt East should have run more plays to get her open or at least post her up down-low. She is pretty good size and great footwork, so I am sure if she was given the ball more it could have been a closer game. Taylor and the Chargers are off to a terrific season and even after this loss, they are still tied at 1st on top of the Region 6 standings along with Butler. Mercy is in 2nd.
Ta’Ziah Jenks (Mercy)
The West Virginia signee finished with 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. She showed a little bit of everything. She missed some easy baskets down-low but with her size and talent, she can definitely improve from that. She crashed the offensive glass hard in this one. Gave her team shots to create second chance points. Her defense was another thing to note as she made it difficult for the Bullitt East Chargers to score the ball. Mercy ran a half court trap and had Jenks up top, which made it hard for Bullitt East to get the ball up the court. In order to win state, Jenks has to finish those easy baskets down-low. Other than that, she had a solid performance.
Caroline Scott (Bullitt East)
Scott can flat-out shoot the ball. She made 3 threes in this game and they all came in the first half. Mercy did an excellent job defending her in the second half. Scott finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds. She liked to attack the defensive glass and go out on the run. She was the fast-break starter. Her stroke from behind the arc was also excellent. She had a nice shooting form and release. She just needed more looks in this one if the Chargers wanted to win. Give credit to Mercy’s defense again. They played a big part in shutting down Caroline Scott and Lexi Taylor. A very nice performance from Caroline. Excited to see what her and Bullitt East do for the rest of the season.
