Continue ReadingMidwest City lost at the hands of Bishop Meige (KS) 50-44 Thursday night at the John Nobles Tournament held at Moore High School in Moore, Okla. Upon contemplation on our notes from the game, the following players had the most outstanding performance by pivotal categories on the floor.
MVP: Payton Verhulst | 2021 SF | Bishop Miege
The seventh-ranked junior recruit in the country, Payton Verhulst, showed up to ball Thursday night. Verhulst was potentially the most valuable player on either side of the ball at any point in the game against Midwest City, especially in the late stretches in which the Lady Bombers were within a point or two of Bishop Miege. She protected the rim, forced turnovers and utilized a spectacular array of post moves to score with the basketball.
Top shooter: Kennedi Grant | SG | Midwest City
Kennedi Grant has skill with the cannon and some size advantage to amplify her impact on the game. Grant, a few inches taller than the average guard, can knock down deep shots from well beyond the arch, allowing the Midwest City offense to play against a dramatically stretched defense.
Top passer: Jadea Ray | PG | Midwest City
Jadea Ray zoomed and dashed on the hardwood to provide her teammates with optimal shots at the goal. Ray has uncanny speed to her, even with the burden of Wilson on her hands, and she is one of the most aware players on her team. Rays’ talents also allow her to sneak lay-ins at the goal for her personal scoring margin.
Top defender: Payton Verhulst | 2021 SF | Bishop Miege
Payton Verlhust was, practically, an impenetrable wall on the defensive end of the floor Thursday night. Her 6-foot-2-inch frame, aided by a great defensive iQ and kinesthetic technique, Verhulst extended herself vertically to block shots, staying out of foul trouble and keeping shots at the rim away from the mark.
