Monday: North Polk (7-3) @ Grinnell (6-3) @ 6:00PM
This is a big game for both teams as both are still looking to prove that they belong. North Polk got off to a tough start to being the year but they have turned it around and looked solid in their last few games. Grinnell is always dangerous with the offense that they run and are capable of knocking off anyone if they can knock shots down.
Monday: Creston (6-3) @ Red Oak (9-2) @ 6:00PM
Creston travels to Red Oak in what is a big battle for both teams. Creston is a little overlooked right now as they have two post players that can compete with anyone in the state. They are going to have to run their game through their posts and I’m not sure Red Oak can stop it. Red Oak’s guards are very talented though so they will have to swarm the ball defensively to have a chance.
Monday: Waukee (8-1) @ Southeast Polk (10-0) @ 6:15PM
Southeast Polk is one of the top teams in the state as they have proven all season long. They currently sit undefeated and are on the verge of moving to 11-0 with a win at home on Monday. Waukee might have different ideas as they are a collection of tough-nosed and gritty guards who will wear you down. Waukee doesn’t win with flash but they have a shot to upset Southeast Polk.
Tuesday: Carroll (7-2) @ Ballard (9-1) @ 6:00PM
This is a big test for both teams as Carroll and Ballard do battle on Tuesday night. Both of these teams have had really solid seasons and are looking to get the second half of the season off on the right note. Both of these teams like to press and run but I think that Ballard has the more talented groups of guards. Don’t count Carroll out though as they’ve shown the ability to win.
Tuesday: North Linn (9-1) @ Springville (9-1) @ 6:00PM
Coming off a couple huge wins in the last week, North Linn looks to keep their momentum going in the right direction with a tough battle against Springville. Springville is off to a great start but hasn’t quite played the talent that North Linn has. I think we can use this game as a measuring stick to see where Springville is.
Tuesday: Urbandale (8-3) @ Ames (6-4) @ 6:15PM
Both of these teams have had some weird losses and even though they are over .500 are likely performing below the expectations that they set. Ames took down Urbandale on the road earlier this season in what was the best game they’ve played to date. Urbandale responded by beating Mason City, a team that beat Ames by 20 this season. I anticipate a close one in Ames on Tuesday.
Tuesday: Van Buren (9-2) @ West Burlington (9-2) @ 7:30PM
Two small schools going at it for bragging rights will be very fun on Tuesday. Van Buren continues to rack up wins against lesser competition and this will be a good game to see where they are at among others. West Burlington is using this one as a motivational tool to show themselves that they can knock off the top teams in the state.
Thursday: Bondurant-Farrar (7-2) @ ADM (6-3) @ 6:00PM
ADM has preached all year long that they are a team to look out for. Now sitting at 6-3 with some losses to very good programs it is time for them to come out and prove that they are legit. Bondurant-Farrar is no slouch though as they can score it from all three levels. This has all the makings of a game that might come down to a possession. The Hlas vs. Miller matchup will be really good.
Friday: Clear Lake (9-1) @ Hampton-Dumont-CAL (10-0) @ 6:15PM
We know that Clear Lake is legit this year with the wins they’ve racked up and now it is time to see if undefeated Hampton-Dumont-CAL is legit. They have some solid wins but nothing stands out on their resume as games that were fantastic. Clear Lake has readied themselves for games like this one and it’ll be fun to see it play out.
Friday: Cedar Falls (7-3) @ Xavier (6-3) @ 7:30PM
This is one of the best games of the week with Cedar Falls traveling to Xavier. Xavier is battling to find an identity and they could very well find it against Cedar Falls. Cedar Falls is looking for their identity much like Xavier so this game is going to be a big factor in who gains momentum down the stretch. This is a game that we’ll be watching closely.
