Games to watch between Jan 7-10
After a nice reset from the fall semester, girls basketball will pick back up across Arizona again on January 7th, 2020. With Region play starting to get underway, there’s a ton of good match-ups you’re going to want to keep an eye on. Here’s some of the top games to watch this week:
Tuesday, January 7th
Westwood @ Dobson
Both teams have a legitimate shot at winning the 6A East Valley Region title.
Tucson @ Pinnacle
Pinnacle’s 6’6 center Kennedy Basham is still learning how to use her height to her advantage in every game. Tucson will give her a run for her money with freshman Gabriella Sanchez. At 6’1, Sanchez knows her height and has the ability to develop into something bigger.
Wednesday, January 8th
Chaparral @ Xavier
Xavier will be looking to continue building off the strong start to the season, while Chaparral will be looking to see if more adjustments are needed after losing senior Anna Ostlie to a knee injury during the Nike Tournament of Champions.
Thursday, January 9th
Hamilton @ Perry
Both teams not only have a legitimate shot at claiming the 6A Premier region, but they both are 6A state championship contenders.
Pinnacle @ Sandra Day O’Connor
Sandra Day O’Connor is off to a strong start to the season and are looking to continue riding the momentum when opening up regional play against Pinnacle.
Friday, January 10th
Hamilton @ Chandler
Chandler could be considered a dark horse contender for the incredibly strong 6A Premier region, but the 2019 State Champions at Hamilton will give them a true test. Adding to the excitement, it’s also a rivalry game between the two schools.
Flagstaff @ Shadow Mountain
Flagstaff is a strong 4A team that often gets little attention from most in the valley due to the geographical differences, but don’t overlook them. Flagstaff is off to a solid start so far this season, but will have a tough test ahead of them in Shadow Mountain. It’s going to be interesting to see who will step up to contribute for Shadow Mountain in the wake of Dyamond Butler-Worley‘s absence, who went down with a knee injury in the Nike Tournament of Champions.
