The first game of the day was 1 seed Millard South vs 8 seed Omaha Marian. Millard South’s depth was too much to handle and they won 74-45. The second game of the day was 4 seed Millard North vs 5 seed Omaha Burke. Burke came out hot and won the first quarter, but spent the rest of the game trailing. Millard North’s 64-50 win advanced them to play Millard South on January 2nd. These are the players from the morning games that impressed.
Maddie Krull – 5’11 Guard – Class of 2020
Maddie Krull is a long ball handler that can stretch to the rim and finish if she gets a step on her matchup. She see the floor well in transition and threw a beautiful one handed bounce pass from half court for what should have been an assist at the rim. More impressive was her defensive performance. She does a great job of moving her feet, keeping her hands off, and using her length to disrupt pass and shot attempts.
Cora Olsen – 5’8 Guard – Class of 2020
Freshman Cora Olsen lead her team in scoring with 16 points, finishing time after time in transition. She can weave through traffic with the dribble and finish with an wide range of scoring moves. Defensively, Cora is a physical defender that keeps ball handlers in front of her and can deny the ball from her matchup.
Jayme Horan – 6’0 Forward – Class of 2020
Jayme Horan chose her spots on Tuesday, but she had flashes that showed her talent. She rebounded well, beat her matchup on cuts, and ran the floor. Her best play of the day came when she made a defender fly by on a pump fake and finished through contact at the rim for three points the old fashioned way.
Ary Harrison – 5’7 Guard – Class of 2021
Ary Harris is a strong and agile guard. She can hand the ball and can create shots for herself with the dribble. She lead the game in scoring by being aggressive, finishing through contact, and converting on her several trips to the free thrown line.
CeCe Hacker – 5’5 Guard – Class of 2021
CeCe Hacker is a great at creating space with strong jab steps and quick size up moves. She can burst through gaps that she creates and finish with a nice floater-push shot. Hacker is really talented with the ball and has good form on he jump shot, I would like to see her be more aggressive at creating shots for herself.
Nicole Avila-Ambrosi – 5’9 Guard – Class of 2020
The best performance of the morning has to go to Millard North’s Star Senior, Nicole Avila-Ambrosi. She scored 25 points very efficiently and had her hand in every aspect of the game. As a defender, Avila-Ambrosi has active hands. She finished the game with 4 steals, a block, and had countless tips and deflections. Offensively she can score from anywhere, create shots for herself, and finish creatively in the paint. In the last 3 minutes of the game, Avila-Ambrosi extended Millard North’s lead to 10 with a cross-over pull-up jumper and then put the dagger in with a floater off the glass after running almost 2 minutes off the clock.
Taylor Finkenbiner – 5’9 Guard – Class of 2020
Taylor Finkenbiner was a difference maker with her three point shooting. She hit timely threes in both halves whenever Burke seemed to be making a run. She also attacked the rim on a couple straight line drives, converting one and getting to the line on the other. Finkenbiner finished the game with 16 points and went 4/9 from the three point line.
Hailey Ingram – 5’6 Point Guard – Class of 2021
Ingram scored from all three levels in Tuesday’s game vs Millard North. She can blow by with the dribble, finish at the rim, create for herself, and has legit three point range. She also keep her teammates involved, finds cutters, and has vision in the open court. During Burke’s fourth quarter comeback effort, Ingram hit an and-one pull up jump shot from the mid-range while getting smothered by and defender.
Aanaya Harris – 6’0 Guard/Forward – Class of 2021
Aanaya Harris is tough to stop in the open court. She is big, strong, and can get you off balance with tight dribble moves. She had trouble converting on some makable layup attempts, but followed her shot hard and finished or got fouled the second or third time up.
