It’s been a continuous process for Basham when it comes to improving certain aspects of her game, like learning how to use her height. At 6-foot-6, Basham has a height advantage that many others don’t have.
It’s no secret that if you watched Basham play during her Freshman year that she had a ton of raw talent, but she’s finally starting to focus on the fine details that make her game better, which is why there’s been a huge improvement from last year to this year.
But even since this season began, it’s easy to see huge strides of improvement in her game. She currently is the second-leading shot blocker in the state of Arizona, averaging more than four blocks per game. She also has improved immensely when it comes to shooting, consistently averaging double digits in games.
She’s also starting to have more assists. When she’s inside the perimeter, she’s been able to kick the ball out to her teammates, creating more opportunity and opening up shots for the Pioneers.
One place Basham could still use some work is at the line, as she still sometimes struggles with free throws, but that’s something she can and likely will fix with time.
It’s clear her basketball IQ has continued to grow throughout the year, and it will only continue to get better as her high school career progresses.
Basham has been an integral part of Pinnacle’s success so far this season and will be critical as the Pioneers continue the rest of the regular season into post-season play.
