Where here is a short list of players that we believe are the tops in our book for the specific skill they showcase.
Here is my list for Los Angeles Area (5) Best Shooting Guards, Period……
2020, 5’11, SG, Taylor Donaldson – Oaks Christian
Donaldson is a very lethal scorer. Last season as a junior, she had some big scoring performances. She’s a good midrange shooter, and she can also shoot from the three-point line. She’s very quick in transition, and she has an explosive first step off the dribble that enables her to beat her defender to the rim. She can handle the ball in transition, and she has good court vision. Moves well without the ball too. (Committed to New Mexico State University)
2020, 5’7, SG, Sydney Gandy – Orangewood Academy
Sydney is dynamic to watch and a pure-shooter in every sense of the word, she can shoot off the catch, the dribble and also with the midrange pull up. This makes her so dangerous on the floor, if you go for the pump-fake your done or if you are guarding on the perimeter and your hands go down, it is lights out, she is all money. What I would lik to see more from her is getting to the rim, but she is more than capable of doing it, but it does not happen often. (Committed to Idaho).
2021, 5’6, SG, Meghan McIntyre – St. Anthony HS
Meghan is a true shooter, she is knocking down shots at a high clip this season, she is the main shooter at St. Anthony High. She is quick, strong, handles the ball well and can get to the rim occasionally, but her strength is pulling up for the three ball as well as midrange shots too. She is also defensive minded and does a great job defending her opponents in tough games.
2021, 5’6, SG, Jayda Curry – Corona Centennial
Curry is quickly becoming one of the most explosive guards on the West Coast. She runs the break very well as either the ball-handler or off the ball to catch a pass. Very quick in transition that makes it difficult for defenders to keep up. She can finish too at the rim over defenders. Although she plays off ball a lot, she’s a very capable passer. Knows when to score and when to get her teammates involved. Uses fakes well to get to different spots on the floor.
2021, 5’7, SG, Alyssa Frescas – Mater Dei High
Alyssa is a bonefide shooter, meaning she is a dead-eye shot from deep every time I watched her play. She knocked down 3-pointers from about 26 feet out in a row. She made shots even when they tried to run her off the three point line, she was threat to score everytime she got the ball. Now, I was a bit concerned with her handle, she has to improve at that skill, because at the next level she will probably have to run some PG.
