Underclassmen Strength from the Millers
Maia Stevens (2024) and Rania Spellman (2024) both came in double digits for the Millers on Monday morning. Stevens certainly carries upperclassmen feel to her game based on watching her on Monday and Spellman seems to play well every 3-4 games for the Millers. Spellman is a reps player when she gets 3+ a game she can be a strong threat. Stevens has tallied six games with 10 more points including 21 points in a City Conference battle where they beat Minneapolis North 50-47.

Kesha White Kesha White 6'0" | C Mpls. Washburn | 2020 State MN (#107, 2020) crashed boards like no other I’ve watched this year. She’s 5th in the state in rebounds per game (12.6) and is consistently averaging a double-double every game. Her 14 rebounds against Bloomington Kennedy was surprisingly one of the lower double-digit board numbers she’s hit this year. I think she would be a great frontcourt addition to a program looking for length in the class of 2020 and is not afraid to go to work on the boards every night. She’s certainly “rebounded” from her ACL injury she suffered last season.
Team Points Award
Kari Johnson (2020) of Minneapolis Washburn gets my team points award for the top leader in steals, assists, etc. Her contributions were key in sealing the deal for the Millers over a struggling Bloomington Kennedy team.
Eagles Got Their Freshman Guard Back in Sink
Ashlee Burchette (2023) has been the quiet leader for the struggling Eagles from Bloomington Kennedy. After a couple of games last week of 7 points each after starting 2020 pretty strong, she posted a double-digit scoring line again on Monday which should hope to strive into the battle of Bloomington next Tuesday at home vs. Jefferson.
Who’s Going to Be Runner Up in the Minneapolis City Conference?
Minneapolis South is leading the conference by two games at 6-0 and 15-3 on the reason, but after that, it’s anyone’s game for 2nd. Washburn, Southwest, and North all are 4-2 in the conference. Looking at the schedule ahead, Washburn will travel to North and face the strong backcourt/frontcourt of Alex McNeil (2022) and Jasmine Jackson (2020) who we talked about earlier this season (click here) at the end of the January but will play Southwest at home for what could be for all the marbles in the last game of the season.
Minneapolis Washburn will play at Minneapolis Edison (4-10) tomorrow at 7:00 PM in what is the largest slate of Wednesday games I’ve seen this season at 12 games across the state.
Bloomington Kennedy (1-17) will get some time off and play for one of the two-games for the “Battle for Bloomington” against Bloomington Jefferson (2-14) on 1/28 at 7:00 PM. You will hear more about Jefferson coming up next, but those two wins have come against two teams over 500. this season in Minneapolis Southwest and Byron which we also watched on Monday at Augsburg.
