Both teams entered the game with impressive winning records, but this one was all Marist from the tip. Junior Sydney Affolter Sydney Affolter 5'10" | SG Marist | 2021 State #75 Nation IL began the game with a three-pointer from the left side which sparked an 11-0 RedHawk run to start things off and they never looked back, taking the game 74-57. Here is a group of talented players from the game that I consider to be interesting prospects to keep an eye on:
2021 Sydney Affolter Sydney Affolter 5'10" | SG Marist | 2021 State #75 Nation IL , 6’0” Guard, Marist
Even though she was battling foul trouble throughout the game, the star Junior still made a big impact when she was on the court, finishing with 10pts and 6rebs. Like I previously mentioned, she started off the game with a three which ignited a Marist run that Fenwick could never recover from. Affolter has all the tools offensively to take over games and her strength and athleticism allow her to be a solid on-ball defender at multiple positions.
2022 Audrey Hinrichs Audrey Hinrichs 6'1" | PF Fenwick | 2022 State IL , 6’0” Forward, Fenwick
The Fenwick Sophomore continues to be a problem in the paint for opposing teams, though she has shown the ability to knock down jump shots as well. Hinrichs kept her team within striking distance for much of the game with her game-high 18pts. She’s strong with the ball in the low post and has an impressive variety of post moves to get good looks at the hoop.
2020 Jenna Ryan, 5’6” Guard, Marist
With Affolter on the bench for longer than Marist would like, Ryan stole the show with a team-high 17pts. The speedy PG is tough to keep up with and really thrives in transition with her good court vision and a high basketball IQ. The majority of her scoring came on layups and mid-range floaters, but Ryan showed that she can shoot the ball from deep as well.
2022 Elise Heneghan Elise Heneghan 6'0" | PF Fenwick | 2022 State IL , 6’0” Forward, Fenwick
On the other block for Fenwick, opposite of Hinrichs, is Sophomore Elise Heneghan Elise Heneghan 6'0" | PF Fenwick | 2022 State IL . Heneghan is another Forward that can stretch the floor with her ability to handle and shoot the ball, in addition to a well-rounded game in the post. She finished the game with a hard-earned 14pts and 7rebs.
2022 Kira Chivers Kira Chivers 5'3" | PG Marist | 2022 State IL , 5’2” Guard, Marist
Chivers is another quick and shifty PG for Marist who has become someone opposing teams have to game plan against. Her ability to control the ball with her speed and push it in transition while making smart decisions makes her such a dynamic player on offense. Defensively, Chivers takes no plays off, constantly hounding opposing ball handlers. She finished with 11pts and 5ast.
2021 Lauren Hall Lauren Hall 5'10" | SG Fenwick | 2021 State IL , 5’10” Guard, Fenwick
A player with a high upside, Hall’s length and offensive skill set are tough to match up against. Though the scoring didn’t come until later in the game, she is often the go-to Guard to jumpstart the offense out on the perimeter. Hall has a nice looking shot from three and mid-range, but using her athleticism to drive the lane and finish in traffic is more of a strong suit right now. She finished with 9pts for the game.
2023 Elise Ward, 5’10” Forward, Marist
I hadn’t seen much of Ward until Saturday, but the freshman really stood out against a team with very solid post players, bringing in 9pts and 4rebs. She runs the floor well and fills lanes nicely so that her PG’s can find her for good looks at the hoop. Ward has nice toughness in the lane and showed flashes of solid post defense against Hinrichs and Heneghan.
2022 Mary Clare Brusek, 5’11” Forward, Marist
Last but not least, Brusek provided a fourth double digit scoring effort for the RedHawks, chipping in 12pts and 4rebs. The 5’11” Sophomore Forward typically thrives on the block with her strength and willingness to fight through contact. Like Ward, Brusek also showed a nice defensive prowess on the block and out on the perimeter when she needed to.
