Hibbing Look Outmatched Even Very Early
It’s no secret that the Blue Jays are dominant in the Big South-East at 14-3, but Hibbing just couldn’t keep up with the Blue Jays all game long. The Blue Jackets started with a driving bucket and one from Haley Hawkinson (2021), who’s been their leading scorer this season with 18 ppg, but only tallied 5 points against the Blue Jays. The speed and overall depth of the Blue Jays are what gave them a 41 point victory over Hibbing on late Monday afternoon.
Kloe Wadd Kloe Wadd 6'2" | PF Waseca | 2023 State MN Was An Unexpected Surprise
If you asked an outsider’s opinion that’s watched Waseca for the first time, they would probably tell you all about their seniors at guard and forward in Gus Boyer Gus Boyer 5'10" | CG Waseca | 2020 State MN (2020, UMD Commit), Hannah Potter Hannah Potter 5'11" | PF Waseca | 2020 State MN (2020), and Rachel Breck Rachel Breck 6'0" | PF Waseca | 2020 State MN (2020). I’m telling you about 6’2 freshman center Kloe Wadd Kloe Wadd 6'2" | PF Waseca | 2023 State MN (2023), who had consistently had scored 8 points total over 4 games this season and got 9 points against the Blue Jackets off the bench on Monday. She gives the Blue Jays young, strong size that will hopefully develop into something special.
Hannah Potter Hannah Potter 5'11" | PF Waseca | 2020 State MN ‘s All-Around Game
Although Hannah Potter Hannah Potter 5'11" | PF Waseca | 2020 State MN (2020) stated she won’t be playing college basketball next year, someone should tell her to change that idea (kidding, of course). When I watched her play on Monday, she brought what I thought is the total guard package in girls’ basketball. Good shooter and strong finisher? Check. Aggressive rebounder? Check. Team Points leader on both sides of the ball? Checkmate.
Hustle Player of the Game
Fanci Williams (2021) of Hibbing gets the award from Monday afternoon for “top hustler”. When a game is lopsided like this one was, I always watch specifically for the kids that continue to work hard even it may be too late for a comeback. That’s exactly what I saw from Willams as I was impressed by how she rebounded with composure even in the late minutes of the second half.
Top Player from This One
Gus Boyer Gus Boyer 5'10" | CG Waseca | 2020 State MN (#27, 2020) turned in a game MVP from this one. She was slightly under her scoring average but still took over the Blue Jackets with excellent finishes to the bucket and key outside shots. UMD is getting a rock-solid tall guard in Boyer that should be fun to watch for the rest of the season as Waseca should prevail in the Big South-East with the leadership of Boyer, Potter, and Breck.
Next on Deck for Both Squads
Hibbing (8-8) played tonight against the top dog from their conference in Virginia (11-6) then tomorrow plays at home against Chisago Lakes (4-12) from the Mississippi 8.
Waseca (14-3) will play at home tomorrow night against conference rival St. James (6-5) The Saints of St. James have three players in Chloe Mickelson, Taylor Sodeman, and Kaydi Anderson who each are averaging 9 points per game for the Saints so far in 11 games this season.
