St. John Vianney (11-0)
It does not get any better than St. John Vianney in NJ girls basketball. They are the top ranked team in the state and it will take a team’s best effort to try and beat the Lancers, and that may not be enough. Their closest contest was a two point victory over Riverdale Baptist (MD). They have dominated their Jersey opponents and have held teams under 20 points on three occasions. Madison St. Rose is the top ranked sophomore in the state and she leads the Lancers with 16.6 points per game. Katie Hill is scoring just over 10 per game. When looking at the schedule, it is hard to find a loss in the near future for St. John Vianney.
Bound Brook (11-0)
Bound Brook has been to the Group 1 finals for four straight years. By the looks of their start, it is not crazy to say that they can make it five trips in a row. Led by Cameron Ward who is scoring 14 points per game, Bound Brook is an extremely balanced team. Arianna McCleod and Laurant Morris have also been key contributors on both ends. Bound Brook is 9-0 against teams from New Jersey in effortless fashion. They have been tested by Wagner and St. Joseph By The Bay, both from New York, but they were able to prevail. This is a streak that could continue well into the middle of the season.
Cherokee (13-0)
Cherokee picked up two blowout victories over Montgomery and Winslow this week to improve to 13-0. Their closest contest this season was a 41-40 win over St. Rose who has won the last two Non-Public A state titles. Alexa Therien has been a force scoring 14.1 points per game. She is joined by fellow senior Kennedy Wilburn and sophomore Katie Fricker as the team’s leading scorers. This is a team with Tournament of Champions hopes, especially after defeating St. Rose.
Immaculate Heart (13-0)
Anna Morris has been absolutely carrying Immaculate Heart this season. She leads the team with 15.4 points per game and has performed in every big moment. Morris is the only player averaging double-figure points per game but she is joined by some great talent like Brittany Graff and A’Nyah Barker. Immaculate Heart is extremely deep and that is a reason they are off to a perfect 13-0 start and are one of the top 10 teams in New Jersey. They will look to keep their streak going with games against Ramapo and Passaic this week.
Middlesex (10-0)
Is Middlesex the best team in the GMC? It is time to start taking them seriously as a contender. Middlesex came out of nowhere last season and made a run to the GMCT semifinals but they are looking for more this season. So far, Middlesex has not struggled with their GMC schedule as they have seven wins by double-figures. They will look to continue their dominance behind Kristen Yonker’s 15.3 points per game. Middlesex will be on the road for two games against Highland Park and Metuchen.
Montville (11-0)
The sign of a good team is knowing how to win close games. That is exactly what Montville has been doing this season. Five of their 11 wins this season have come by single-digits. Montville was taken to overtime by Watchung Hills but was able to escape with a victory. The play of their guards has carried them this season. Emma Wax and Bella Vito are two of the top guards in the state and certainly one of the best duos. Having two players like this will help you steal some wins in close games. Vito is scoring 15 points per game wile Wax leads the team with 16.3 per game.
New Providence (14-0)
We may have a new power in Union County. New Providence is unbeaten this season and some of their victims are teams like Holmdel, Governor Livingston, and Union Catholic. New Providence recently shocked Oak Knoll 41-40. That is the statement win that they needed. Freshman Meghan Lamanna is leading the team in scoring with 14 points per game. She is followed by Amy Maurer and Kaitlyn Cumiskey. New Providence has a chance to add another title to their packed trophy case at the end of the season.
Ramapo (14-0)
Ramapo narrowly escaped with a victory in their previous game. It was a 40-37 win on the road against Northern Highlands. This is a team that was tested early on with close victories over Teaneck and Midland Park. Sophomore Madison Schiller has been the key contributor to Ramapo so far this season. She is the offensive leader and a proven scorer. Ramapo will square off with Immaculate Heart, who was previously mentioned on this list, on Thursday. That will be the game of the week and biggest test for each side to date.
