Well, we are not there yet and there is still time to enjoy some of the best games of the girls basketball season. Here are the top games for this upcoming week.
Monday, Jan. 27
Manasquan at Rumson-Fair Haven, 6:30 PM
These two teams are separated by just one spot in the state rankings and that showed in their first matchup this season. Rumson took home a 50-49 win over Manasquan early in January. Manasquan will be getting Mary Donnelly back this time around after her transfer from St. Rose. These two teams have a chance to meet for a third time in the state championship later in the season. This game starts the week off with a bang.
Tuesday, Jan. 28
Red Bank Catholic at St. Rose, 5:30 PM
When these teams met on Jan. 3, Red Bank Catholic blew out St. Rose 66-43. This was an easy win for the Caseys led by Ally Carman and Justine Pissott. These are two top five teams in the state as Red Bank Catholic is No. 2 and St. Rose comes in at No. 5 led by Brynn Farrell. This is the premiere matchup of the week around girls basketball in the state of New Jersey.
Ridge at Rutgers Prep, 6:00 PM
This Somerset County rematch will feature two teams playing very well at the current time. Rutgers Prep holds a win over Ridge this season and will look to make it a clean sweep. Christina Dalce has been one of the best players in the state this season. For Ridge to compete in this game, they will have to slow Dalce down along with the rest of the offense. This will be a difficult thing to do.
Thursday, Jan. 30
Rumson-Fair Haven at Red Bank Catholic, 5:30 PM
This will be the second ranked matchup for both teams in this week. Red Bank Catholic will look to assert their dominance once again as one of the top two teams in New Jersey. They will look for a sweep of Rumson after defeating them earlier in the season. The matchup to watch will be Pissott going up against Julia Corsentino.
Friday, Jan. 31
Saddle Day River vs. Blair, 4:30 PM
This will be a must see game at Life Center on Friday. Olivia Miles and Dom Darius have led Blair to 10 straight wins. They are arguably the best duo of guards in the state. Blair is a team with extremely high expectations heading down the stretch of the season. First, they will have to get past Saniah Caldwell and Saddle Day River. They are No. 13 in the state and playing some great basketball.
St. John Vianney at Long Island Lutheran (NY), 7:00 PM
Long Island Lutheran is a nationally ranked team that already has big wins over ranked teams in NJ such as Red Bank Catholic and Manasquan. They will not get a crack at No. 1 St. John Vianney. Madison St. Rose is the top-ranked player in the Class of 2022 in New Jersey. She has been one of the best players all around this season in any grade. St. Rose and Katie Hill be have to be on top of their game if they want to be the first Jersey team to take down Long Island Lutheran.
Saturday, Feb. 1
Mount St. Mary’s at Gill St. Bernard, 11:30 AM
Erin McNulty is now eligible for Mount St. Mary’s after her transfer from Union Catholic. She joins Alexis Brown and Alana Rocco as the leaders of the No. 17 team in the state. They will square off with an injured Gill St. Bernard’s team in this one. They are a dangerous team that can compete with anyone when healthy. Mount St. Mary’s could be on upset watch this weekend.
