Here are this week’s top games to watch:
Bismarck at Minot, 7:30 p.m., Thursday, January 9
The Magicians come into the game riding positive vibes, as they’ve won two straight including an upset win at Jamestown last week. Minot won just four games all of last season but appear much improved early in the year. They’ll get another big test as the Demons are among the best teams in the WDA and seemingly rounding into form as young players gain more experience.
Mandan at Bismarck Legacy, 6 p.m., Friday, January 10
Two of the best teams in the WDA in recent years, this matchup could play a big part in deciding seeding in the WDA standings. Bismarck Legacy is undefeated and looks like a legitimate contender in the league while Mandan has been better than expected given so much roster turnover after Lakyn Darras. Arianna Berryhill has been excellent for the Sabers and the team’s overall defense is as good as any in the state.
Devils Lake at Grand Forks Red River, 3:15 p.m., Saturday, January 11
This might be the best game of the week as Devils Lake and Grand Forks Red River are both legitimate contenders in the EDC. The Firebirds have been excellent again this year, as Jes Mertens and Ramsey Brown form arguably the best one-two punch in the league. The Roughriders are allowing just 46 points per game, so this will be a strength versus strength kind of matchup.
