Both teams sit at the top of their respective regions, so there was no question about if it would be an exciting game. The question surrounded who would end up having the biggest game and what team would end up coming out on top.
Pinnacle was playing without its leader, junior Ally Stedman, due to a lower back issue.
It was a tough battle the entire first half of the game. Mountain Pointe jumped out to an early 18-13 lead at the end of the first, but Pinnacle was able to battle back to tie things up going into the half at 31.
At the end of the third, Pinnace was able to jump out to a slight 47-44 lead that they were able to maintain throughout the fourth quarter. It ended up coming down to the last seconds of the game, but Pinnacle was able to pull out a 58-54 win.
Here are some takeaways from the game surrounding each team:
Pinnacle:
- A number of girls stepped up to the plate with the absence of Ally Stedman. It was a full team contribution, with a number of girls stepping up in different areas to fill the void.
- Shea Figuroa can shoot threes for days. In the game against Mountain Pointe, she had four, accounting for a majority of her 16 points.
- This has to be one of sophomore Kennedy Basham‘s best games of the season, as she scored 27 points in the game.
- Pinnacle has a strong young core. They’re most certainly going to be sitting at the top of 6A next year.
Mountain Pointe:
- Mountain Pointe’s team plays incredibly physical, and has stepped it up a notch since earlier in the season.
- Sophomore Kishyah Anderson is flying under the radar for the 2022 class. She had an excellent game for the Pride, scoring 19 points herself and also helping to set her teammates up to score.
- This game was one that helped make the girls better, despite the loss. It was a close one, and it stings, but this gave them one last good look before closing out region play.
