I saw Fort Mill(SC) play Clover(SC) in a 5a conference battle in Fort Mill, South Carolina! Clover is one of the best teams in the state and proved it by winning the contest 52-32. Clover is a loaded team. They have talented players that play very well together. It’s apparent each player understands their role which allows them to compete as a complete team. Clover is now 17-1 and looking to make a run at the state title. Here are 5 prospects I evaluated from the Clover team.
Wade is a junior guard for Clover. She can flat-out play. What stood out the most is that she can see the floor very well. She runs the break and gets the ball to the open person in place to score. You can tell her IQ is high as she makes good decisions and great reads. Wade can shoot the basketball as she has a nice stand-alone jumper. She is quick enough with the ball to create offense. The team goes as she goes. I was really impressed with her ability to manage the game. Wade is the ring leader as she connects the dots meaning she makes sure everyone involved plays their role. I really like Wade, she is a very good player. Wade will play D-1 basketball in college, she is currently receiving offers!
La’Destiny Worthy
Worthy is a junior forward for Clover. She is the backbone of the team. She is solid with high potential. Worthy can hit the mid-range shot, can board, understands her role and has a knack for being around the ball. Worthy has good hands and is able to catch passes to where she can finish at the rim. Worthy is a smart player who you can depend on to make good decisions. I think next year as her overall game develops, she has the potential to really dominate. I suggest you keep an eye on Worthy!
Janelle Carter
Carter is a junior forward for Clover. She is a little overshadowed by Wade and Worthy. However, she is very important to the team! She is the glue, she does the little things that get overlooked but I believe with more touches, she could elevate her game. Carter is very good around the basket, will defend and is able to get open to receive passes for easy buckets. I’d like to see her work on her overall game during the summer and let’s see how good she can become!
Mariana Ballard
Ballard is a senior guard who will attend Johnson and Wales University in Charlotte, NC next season. She is the spark that you don’t see coming because the team is so talented. She can handle the ball and shoot it very well. She is really quick with the ball and can create offense for herself and others. If you don’t give her the attention she deserves she will eat you alive. Heck, even if you do give her the attention, she will still find a way to beat you. Johnson and Wales is getting a good player!
Nysheria Wright
Wright is a freshmen forward for Clover. She is very young and playing behind a talented cast but you can see glimpses of promise. I saw her hit a mid-range jumper and she can run the floor really well. As the team continues move along at a high level, Wright should only get better. Keep an eye on her down the road. Wright is raw but has the potential to be a strong contributor in the years to come.
