Player Spotlight ’21 Raven Adams starting year off on fire
I’ve mentioned countless times about young players I’ve seen that I said would do big things and the list is countless, simply because I didn’t write them down and many go back even further than when I first started covering Texas girls basketball because no one else was, that will never get old, but some of these players just show me at a young age that they have it and it’s only fitting that Ridgepoint junior Raven Adams would start the year off with a bang right before I drop the PGH Texas Top 100 for her class. I’m almost certain she was 5th grader when I said she would be a #D1Lock and many were astonished by me saying that because of her size, well #sizedontmatter when you can play and that’s just common sense but some of her early intangibles just stood out like her poise, desire and never give up mindset because no matter who the opponent was, and she was usually playing up, she just brought “it”
Raven AdamsMany have different views on what the “it” factor is, that’s one of the reasons the NCAA portal is full but one thing I’m never full of is erroneous evaluations and over the years Adams has proven me right and has gone from a legitimate scorer to a legitimate college point guard, last night she went over 500 assists and last week, down the stretch she attacked the basket and hit a midrange step back to tie the game against a talented Dulles squad and after a steal and what else, assist to her from Marchelle Willis, she wins the game on a layup. These types of heroics have been seen by in person countless times, body control, attacking the rim, mid to long-range were always there as well as her ball-handling so calling her early was easy, for me. Over the years, she placed a ribbon on the present, setting teammates up for easy baskets and just understanding how to control the tempo so not only is she one of the Top 20 players in the state, the #3 point guard, as far as that #D1Lock, you can throw away the key because she has offers on the table
