Proof of the Louther’s grinder play style can be seen in her Draymond Green-like stats.
The No. 14-ranked 2022 recruit in PGH Colorado’s list leads the Class 4A No. 2-ranked Cyclones in rebounds with 6.1 a game, and also leads in assists with 2.9 a game and steals with 2.5 per contest.
The 5-foot-10 Louther also throws in 5.9 points a game, which sits tied for third on a deep Cyclones squad that also features PGH Colorado’s No. 2 ranked 2020 recruit in Hannah Simental.
But what might be the most important piece to Louther’s game is the defense she provides, whether it’s down-low in the paint or coming up top to guard a shooter.
Pueblo West High School’s Gabby Louther, left, goes up for layup against Windsor on Jan. 3, 2020Back on Dec. 13 against Air Academy, Louther led the charge in guarding the Kadets’ Kylee Blacksten, the No. 5 2020 recruit in PGH Colorado’s list, and helped hold her to only nine points in a 51-30 Pueblo West win.
After the game, Cyclones coach Gil Lucero was impressed with Louther’s attention to all of the little details and praised her tenacity on the defensive end against one of the state’s top players.
Louther’s length and speed allow her to be able to mix it up in the paint and poke away a few steals from the opponent’s bigger players, while also still being able to close out on perimeter players.
Louther also finished with 11 points against the Kadets, including knocking down one of her five made 3-pointers on the season.
Offensively, Louther prefers to work in the paint, but has the ability to step back and hit jumpers at the elbow or take a few steps further to behind the arc.
Last season, as a freshman, Louther posted nearly identical numbers to the ones she has this season, showing her consistent production despite being on a Pueblo West team that goes 11 players deep.
Be on the look out for Louther next weekend, Jan. 16-18, when the Cyclones take part in a tournament at Rampart High School where they will face three Class 5A opponents in Pine Creek, Valor Christian and Rampart.
