Now a sophomore, Talbot is taking her game to the next level and is showing that the elite production many were expecting from the relentless guard may be arriving ahead of schedule.
Grace TalbotAudra Lynn, who coached Talbot at Chatfield last season and is now an assistant coach at Otero Junior College, isn’t surprised in the slightest by what has already been an impressive sophomore season from Talbot.
“She’s a great attitude kid,” Lynn said. “Last year when I was her coach and we had more athletic ability around her, it wasn’t just about the numbers with Grace. There were nights when she had a bunch of assists and there were nights when he had a bunch of points. She does a great job of motivating her team with her play. And obviously, she can score.”
Through the first 13 games of her sophomore campaign, Talbot is averaging 20.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 3.6 steals. The 5-foot-6 point guard – a position that could make her more desirable at the next level – is shooting 37 percent (42 for 115) from 3-point range and 38 percent (82 for 213) from the field overall. Her scoring average is currently eighth best in all of Colorado.
Grace TalbotShe has scored 18 or more points in nine of 13 games and on Jan. 8, Talbot scored a career-high 39 points during a 67-56 win over Doherty. In the game, she was 5 for 9 from 3-point range, 7 for 15 from the field and went an incredible 20 for 20 at the free-throw line.
Talbot is adept at both driving past defenders and shooting off the dribble, making her a difficult player to defend when the ball is in her hands. She is also excellent at absorbing contact and getting to the free-throw line, where she is shooting 78 percent (61 for 78) this season.
“Her spatial awareness is one of the best I’ve ever seen including in the college game,” Lynn said. “She knows how to maneuver herself and the ball through a number of different situations on the basketball court.”
Talbot is also an excellent lacrosse player and plays club basketball for Premier.
