She’s quickly making a name for herself as one of the better players in the class of 2023. Petroelje is a 6’1″ shooting guard from Hudsonville High School. She played grassroots basketball with MBA and averaged 20 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks per game.
Petroelje is an impressive prospect to say the least. She’s an excellent shooter with range that extends beyond the arc. She has a quick release that allows her to get off good looks even if contested. Petroelje isn’t just a shooter, but a true 3 level scorer. She has a nice mid range game and can finish in traffic. Petroelje can also handle the ball at a high level. This allows her to be a huge asset in transition and against a pressure defense.
Petroelje is always working on her game and gaining experience. She is currently focused on improving her defense and rebounding. Petroelje considers making the Hudsonville varsity team as her best basketball moment so far. Having made the starting 5, she’s gaining valuable minutes and experience on a very strong team. Petroelje looks at games like a win earlier this season against a ranked East Grand Rapids team, as key in her growth as a player. She also enjoys the opportunity to square off against AAU teammates throughout the high school season.
The recruiting process has already begun for Maddie Petroelje. She has already earned an offer from Grand Valley State University and has received interest from teams in the MAC, B1G, Big East, and Ivy League. Petroelje has taken visits and speaks regularly to many of those coaches.
Petroelje has a lot to offer to a school at the next level. She will bring a positive winning attitude with her. She will provide a college coach with a very versatile style of play as well.
Maddie Petroelje has goals lined up in front of her. Her MBA team is now a part of the UA Rise Circuit and she’s looking forward competing at a high level this spring and summer. Petroelje has a laser focus on improving her game and becoming the best player that she can be. She is also focused on continuing to perform in the classroom and being an excellent student.
When asked what her greatest motivation to be successful is, Maddie Petroelje points towards her family: “My family because they sacrifice so much for me and they’re my biggest supporters. I want to make them proud in everything I do.”
