Prep Girls Hoops Prospect Spotlight
In this article, we take a look at our #25 ranked player for our 2021 class, Reese Althouse. A 5’5 junior guard for Shawnee Mission East High School and member of Next Level Eclipse .
Reese, a hard-working and energetic guard with the ability to really shoot the basketball from deep. A valuable piece for the Lancers as they continue to compete game in and game out. We dive in to learn more about Reese, life, lessons, and basketball.
Q: When did you start playing basketball?
A: I first started playing basketball when I was in preschool, and have loved it ever since.
Q: Who has been some of your biggest influences and why?
A: My parents have been my biggest influences. I’ve always been able to go to them for any advice I need, and have always looked up to them.
Q: Do you have a favorite player or someone you try and emulate your after?
A: Steph Curry is really fun to watch, but I always loved frank mason when he was at KU, even though I’m not a KU fan myself.
Althouse is a scrappy guard that plays every possession as if it’s her last. Displays great ball-handling skills and the ability to finish in the lane with floaters atop size. She has a unique toughness to go along with fearlessness which keeps her in the midst of the basketball chaos during a game. She stands in taking charges against opposing players twice her size, dives headfirst for loose balls and jumps out of bounds to save a possession. A coach’s dream player for her immeasurable work ethic and receptiveness when being taught the game.
Q: What are some areas of your game you’d like to improve in, of any?
A:I definitely want to improve on my mid-range game as well as creating shots for myself. I am always trying to improve as a ball handler as well.
Q: What are some goals you have for the school season:
A: Me and my teams goal for this season is to reach state. Since I’ve been at SME, we haven’t won a sub-state game so winning 2 and going to state would be a huge accomplishment.
Reese currently has interest from some D2’s schools in the midwest area. Look for her stock to continue to rise as she continues to gain experience, skill and knowledge of the game.
