Continue ReadingOne of the top leagues each year in the Dayton area is the Shelby County Athletic League. At the top of the league and miles ahead of everyone else is Fort Loramie, who is likely the deepest team in Ohio. They bring 12 deep at you, and their second five would likely also win the conference, and make a run into the tournament. Anna has a track record of success and is talented this year, while Botkins has some good young kids. Russia is battling with several new kids, while Fairlawn, Jackson Center and Houston continues to build their programs.
Underclass Stars on the Rise
Lonna Heath, 5-7 Soph., Fairlawn- continuing to improve her game, Lonna can run the Jets offense, and be a scoring threat from the perimeter. Has good range beyond the arc. Smart player who is improved from her freshman season. Scores at a double figure rate.
Ava Shotis, 5-7 Soph., Fort Loramie- she is not a secret after having a solid freshman season off the bench for the Redskins. She has gotten even better and her best is yet to come. Multi sport athlete who is very skilled on the basketball court. Good handles, can score and a smart heady player.
Carmen Heucker, 5-6 Soph., Botkins- the key that makes the Trojans go. Another kid who had a nice freshman season and has worked to improve her game. Runs the floor well, can score from the perimeter and at the basket. Good defender and floor leader.
Ella Doseck Ella Doseck 5'6" | PG Anna | 2021 OH , 5-8 Jr., Anna- Excellent perimeter shooter, also can drive and score from the midrange. Good handles, solid passer. Slasher and can score from the line.
Ashley Scott, 5-10 Jr., Russia- Having to pick up her production this season with the loss of key seniors last season, and she has done a good job. An aggressive player who can hit the three and drive to the rim and finish. Can play the point or the post. Good rebounder.
You could really put several of Fort Loramies kids in this category. With the likes of jr Kenzie Hoelscher and jr Dana Rose Dana Rose 6'0" | SF Fort Loramie | 2021 State OH it just keeps going. The Redskins are a special group.
Freshman to Watch
Kate Sherman, 6-0 Russia- slowly working herself into a very productive player as a freshman. A 6-foot post who work hard and is capable of solid defense with deflections on defense. One to keep an eye on.
Senior Standouts
Marissa Meiring Marissa Meiring 5'10" | PF Fort Loramie High School | 2020 OH , 5-10 Fort Loramie- it all starts with the defending league Player of the Year. Strong physical player who has good touch around the basket. Can step out for a short-to-midrange shot. Good rebounder, protects her position and can create.
Lauren Barhorst, 6-2 Anna- long and athletic, can run the floor. Does a good job getting position and can score around the rim. Good hands, rebounds and alter shots in the paint. Can put the ball on the floor.
