I ended up the year with a couple of major events in the Dallas area as well as a couple of other events, one also in the Dallas area, another in Waco and caught players I hadn’t seen or hadn’t seen enough of but let me close with this one “talent is everywhere” and these young ladies popped into the Top 30
Autumn Smith-G (Arlington Martin) I love seeing shooters and when you can catch and shoot with accuracy, you’re on to something valuable at the next level. She sees the floor, makes good decisions and this is while pushing the ball which is also valuable for taking defenders off the dribble nicely next level. Not only can she shoot the ball, she also and scores with either hand
Jade GoynesJade Goynes-F (North Crowley) I have to give full transparency, I already had seen her a few years ago and although she was playing up, my exact words were you never would have known. She’s still playing up, as in the air, elevating off the ground for jumpers, acrobatic finishes, and rebounds but her mental toughness and desire are intangibles you just can’t teach
Zarria Carter-F (Mansfield) she already stands at “the magic number” that’s 6’0 if you haven’t been paying attention and with any type of ability virtually assures you will play somewhere at the next level. When you add in athleticism as well as being able to finish consistently in the paint, that gives you more options and one thing I distinctively remember is her “ups” as she elevates off the floor for rebounds as well as blocks
Nicole PetrakovitzNicole Petrakovitz-G (Oak Ridge) definitely was one of the top players I saw at the Katy Classic and sort of was nudged over to see her. I saw the team play last season, don’t remember her but I won’t forget her after the shooting exhibition she put on. Not many players can stop on the dime for the pull-up, she can and her stop and pop jumper is fluid and accurate from mid to long-range
Mackenzie Wurm-P (Allen) you can’t teach 75 inches but you can dissect it and she definitely left a lasting impression. Good hands and footwork come in handy when you have her size, length, and athleticism but she showed a variety of shots in the paint, including a hook that took me back and her upside, is pretty good but right now, finishing with contact to go along with everything else is huge
