With the All A state tournament on tap for next week, let’s take a moment to appreciate some of the best small school players in Kentucky.
Lexy Meyers, Leslie County – One of the best shooters in the state, Meyers is among the leading scorers in Kentucky as she is averaging just under 26 points per contest while drawing double and triple teams every night out. Don’t be surprised when she has a huge college career because she isn’t the focus of every opposing defense.
Ella Thompson, Bethlehem – The leading scorer and rebounder on one of the best teams in the state, Thompson is an efficient scorer who does the majority of her damage on or around the low post but has also shown the ability to stretch the floor with some perimeter shooting.
Hailey Smith, Wolfe County – Wolfe sits at 12-4 this season and second in the 14th region according to the RPI. Thanks in large part to the scoring of Smith, who has been really efficient while scoring at such a high level. Shooting 54% overall, 43% from three and 83% at the FT line while leading the team in rebounding and top 10 in the state in scoring makes for one of the most impressive seasons of anyone thus far.
Hannah McKay, Owensboro Catholic – McKay is a legitimate contender for the Miss Basketball award and is having a huge Senior year. Already signed to Murray State for college ball, McKay is averaging 19 points and 9.7 rebounds with shooting splits of 53/45/76.
Kierstyn Ratterman, Bellevue – The Senior leader for the Tigers is among the top scorers in the state and in the mix for the nomination as the 9th region nominee for Miss Basketball. When it comes to most valuable players in the region, Kierstyn may be the most valuable in the 9th region to her team as they would really struggle without her scoring.
Ellie Heid, Portland Christian – Portland Christian has struggled for so long that it’s perhaps most impressive that the freshman guard has led the Lady Eagles to a 7-6 record this season, including winning the Portland Christian Holiday Classic.
Raigan King, Pineville – Averaging 16 points and 7 rebounds per game, King’s most impressive statistic is that she’s shooting 68% from the field on the season. She’s doing all of her damage in the paint and surrounding area as she is putting up those big numbers without even attempting a 3 pointer this season.
Lexie Lynch, Owsley County – Lynch is having a huge Junior season for the Owls, averaging just shy of 20 points per game to go along with 6.6 rebounds per game and shooting just under 50% from the field. Owsley is off to an impressive 11-5 start this year and set up for an even better season next year when most of the roster returns.
