Tom Gonsalves and his staff were excellent, making sure I had a table to setup and whatever I needed to do the job to cover this event. I got out my computer and phone and I began to watch some good basketball all in one location, I sat their all day Friday and all day on Saturday to get the bulk of the teams covered, because I was booked and would not return on Monday. Here are the game we covered and some pics to keep you entertained, this event had some powerhouse teams in attendance from up North and out of state that were truly impressive. Here we go with game results and who we thought impressed in the games.
Day 2 Report – St. Marys Stockton – MLK Showcase
Heritage (CA) 55 Lynwood (CA) 46
2021, 6’3, Lynwood High, Raya Marshall with 14pts on the night – Raya is special and most people know it once they see her play the game and realize the talent she possesses. She is skilled from all three levels, shooting deep three pointer and taking you off the dribble to the basket at will, makes her so hard to stop on the floor. She is a good shot blocker, her timing to catch your shot is great and she is a good defender as well on and off the ball. Her midrange shot is perfect and we believe she should use it more often, it will help open up the floor for her in the game.
2021, 5’7, PG, Lynwood HS, Briliyah Taylor 13pts in the game – Briliyah is a dynamic, athletic point guard that is tough and hard to guard on the floor, because of he speed and quickness from her fist step. She just blows right passed you and finishes at the basket with a layup or nice floater in the paint. She can defend and is a good at taking charges, she can run the floor well as the point guard and makes passes that most cannot, high IQ and the skill set to go with it.
2020, 6’3, PF/C, Heritage High, Abigail Muse 19pts in the game – Abigail is special as well, she is very skilled in the paint with great footwork and style to her game, almost relentless with her pursuit of the ball to score. She is long, lanky and has a very high IQ on the floor, it was great watching her use the drop step with her right or left side and finish with both hands on the floor at will. Excellent footwork and a nice midrange game to boot. (Committed to Boise State University).
2023, 6’4, PF/C, Heritage High, Amanda Muse 11pts int the game – Amanda is very skilled in the paint as a player, I believe she is more skilled than her sister Abigail. With both of them in the game it is tough to rebound and to get shots when they are in your presence, because both are excellent shot blockers. Amanda is one inch bigger than her sister, her footwork is equivalent to her sisters as well as her scoring prowess. It was a pleasure to watch Amanda play she is going to be good for the next 4 years.
Cardinal Newman (CA) 48 Regis Jesuit (CO) 43
2020, 5’9, PG/SG, Regis Jesuit HS, Jada Moore 17pts in this game – Jada was as smooth as a guard could be in this game, she shot the ball well in this game showed her true skill set being able to score from all three levels on the floor. She was tough to the basket and no one can stop her once she put her head down and went to the rim and finish through contact. She was an excellent defender and show that in this game and was a lethal scorer at all times on the floor. (Committed to Kansas State.)
2020, 5’9, PG, Cardinal Newman High, Anya Choice 23pts in this game – Anya was very impressive to watch as a point guard on the floor, she commanded respect each and every time she came down the court. She is a scoring threat on the floor at all times showed us her full skill set with driving hard to the basket, shooting the mid range and knocking down the three pointer with ease. She is defensively gifted and an all around tough competitor for her team. She is committed to play with (UC Santa Barbara).
Clovis West (CA) 85 Perry (AZ) 54
2021, 5’6, PG, Clovis West HS, Alyssa Kunivoshi had 20pts in this game – Alyssa is one of those guards that is really crafty and before you know it, she pops up and has 15 plus points in the game. She shoots the ball well from beyond the arc, she gets assist for her teammates to make baskets, just a real heady player that we saw in this game. Her basketball IQ is off the charts, she will be one to watch in the spring and during the summer.
2021, 5’9, SG, Clovis West HS, Nikki Tom had 21pts in this game – Nikki is special she can score from all three levels on the floor and she is the bonafide leader of this squad and she does so with all her energy on the floor. She is offensively gifted great footwork and she is a lethal threat to score on the floor each and every time she catches the ball. Her three ball is immaculate and most cannot get to her in time before she launches it, and it is nothing but net. Coaches keep and eye on this one, she has Mid Major written all over her.
2021, 5’11, SF/G, Perry HS, Madison Connor had 13pts in this game – Madison was pretty good on the floor with nice size body and a sort of swag to her game. She was crafty, she could get to the rim and finish through contact which helps her game a great deal. She can handle the ball, she can shoot it from the midrange and three and is averaging about 20 points per game this season. Coaches take a real good look at this kid, she’s gonna be special.
New Hope Academy (MD) 52 Cathedral Catholic (CA) 40
2022, 6’3, PF, Cathedral Catholic HS, Isuneh Brady with 19pts – Ice is the prototypical power forward with a nice body and frame, she uses her body well in the paint and is able to seal her defenders an finish with success. Ice is also a great shot block in the paint with her long wingspan that keeps her in front of the defender to make those plays. She is skilled out to the mid range, makes shots off the back board, pull up’s from the free throw line and is a decent free throw shooter. (Committed to UConn).
2022, 5’11, CG, Cathedral Catholic HS, Taryn Johnson with 9pts – this girl is special, she has the body type of a track star and knows how to use it on the floor. She is dominant driving to the basket, can finish through contact, she can also hit the mid range and is developing her three pointer at this moment. I would categorize her as one of the best sophomore in San Diego.
2021, 6’3, PF. New Hope Academy HS, Maria Gakdeng – Maria was long and lanky and could do many things in the paint such as block shots, finish off the glass and was an excellent rebounder. She ran the floor like a gazelle and had great hands and footwork as a great skill set in her game. Coaches should be looking for a player like this she is top shelf and will only improve in the next years that she plays. Definitely a Mid to High major player in my opinion.
2020, 6’2, PF, New Hope Academy HS, Deja Bristol – Deja is that big body post that every coach wants in their program, she is agile and skilled in the paint and able to run the floor very well. She dominates in the paint as an excellent rebounder and she can score at will as she catches and seals her defender on the block. Dejas determination in the game to win sets her apart from all others like her, that is why she has received a scholarship to play basketball in college with Virginia. (Committed to Virginia)
