Meade from Anne Arundel County walked away with the championship in this division. The Mustangs were dominant in their 59-20 win over Aberdeen in their first round game. They followed that up with an impressive win over Wise in the championship game. Here are some of the standouts from this division of the tournament.
Jaela Reid, 2022, Meade
Jaela continues to impress me. She had a great tournament and took home an MVP award. She impacts the game on both ends of the floor with her versatile play. I thought she was the key to their second day win as she set the tone early with her rebounding, defense and scoring. At 5’10” Jaela has impressive length and speed that allows her to guard bigger and smaller players effectively. I didn’t list her position because she’s so versatile.
Kiersten Rose, 2021, Wise
Ms. Rose is a wiry and lanky six footer who brings a lot of energy to the Pumas squad. She is a very active rebounder on both ends of the floor and finishes well in the paint. She is above average athletically and should be a nice addition to a college program down the road.
Cassandra Smith, Aberdeen, 2021
Cassandra is a smooth six footer with a very efficient offensive game. I would really like to see her shoot more as she usually shoots a high percentage from the floor. She takes really good shots and most of them come off slashes to the basket and short jumpers. Her offensive game is still emerging as she has started to step out to the 3 point line more often. Cassandra uses her size well to rebound and defend.
Sa’niya Council, Westlake, 2021
San’niya is an aggressive scoring guard who was quite impressive on both days. She picked up an MVP award for her efforts as she scored from inside and out. She used her speed on defense to come up with steals and deflections and she turned those into points. I’m looking forward to seeing her again to monitor her progress.
