Holy Cross was once among the top teams in the country but for the past few seasons they have been struggling to win a WCAC conference game. Facing Bishop McNamara was too much of a mountain to climb but it gave some players opportunities to show some things that they typically don’t also it was a great opportunity to catch up with some of the younger players.
Yonta Vauhgn – Point Guard – Bishop McNamara – 2022
Yonta VaughnYonta opened the game with a couple of three pointers and then focused on getting her teammates going. She is a crafty point guard that pushes the pace of the game. Yonta is one of the top point guards in the country regardless of class, she is an excellent passer with great vision. She has the ability to score whenever she wants, but is unselfish enough to sacrifice her scoring and get others involved.
Channa Hayes – Wing – Bishop McNamara – 2020
Channa has always had a good deep ball and if you’re not paying attention you’d miss that she has so much more in her bag. She was the leading scorer in the game with 15 points and scored in a variety of ways. Despite scoring throughout Channa chose to get the younger players more experience rotating to the point later in the game, getting players in position to score and getting them the ball.
Cassidy Mahaney Point Guard – Holy Cross – 2023
Cassady MahaneyCassidy was impressive as a middle schooler and is showing the same level of play in high school. She hit from deep and got to the basket and the free throw line. As the scoring margin increase Cassidy kept up the same intensity while runner the Tartans offense. Holy Cross seems to be a couple of players away from being back in the WCAC mix and Cassidy will be a key piece as they try to get back in the upper level of the league.
Cheyenne DeGross – Guard – Holy Cross – 2023
Cheyenne DeGrossCheyenne hit a two and three pointer in the fourth quarter and showed so spirit even though the game was essentially over, she mixed things up a bit getting to the line as well. She is only a sophomore but showed that she will be ready to compete in the WCAC for the next couple of seasons after her sister graduates.
Aaliyah Pitts – Wing – Bishop McNamara – 2020
Aaliyah PittsAaliyah handled her business in the first half scoring 13 points before taking a knee for the night. She hit three 3-pointers in early the first quarter and the Mustangs never looked back. Aaliyah’s ability to score from anywhere on the floor fills the void left by the graduation of two All-American players last season.
Sienna DeGross – Wing – Holy Cross – 2020
Sienna scored all of the Tartans first quarter points, but unfortunately her foul count increased limiting her minutes. She still was Holy Cross’s leading score at the end of the game.
