Below I’ve broken down some of the states leading SENIOR scorers and the games that have led up to such high scoring averages.
Top Scorers: Class of 2020
Caroline Strande | 5’11 G | Senior | Racine Lutheran
Strande is averaging 37.5 points per game for Racine Lutheran and is currently the second leading scorer in the state. Shooting 45% from the three point line, Strande is an ultra-dynamic player. She had 45 points against Wilmot and 42 against Lake County Lutheran. Strande moves so well without the ball which leads to her teammates finding her open often. She too, is an offensive board specialist and finds many points off of those. Strange is committed to play at the University of Minnesota.
Shatima McFarland | 5’7 G | Senior | Milwaukee Pulaski
Currently leading the state in scoring, McFarland is averaging 43 points per game. She brought in 59 points against St Augustine Prep this season which is her season high. She is incredibly gifted offensively and seems to bring out a new offensive move each time I’ve watched her. She dropped 38 against Milwaukee South and Milwaukee Bradley Tech. McFarland also dropped 58 points at Milwaukee Obama. She has truly been a state wide conversation topic and after watching in person, McFarland’s offensive game and shooters mentality is the real deal.
Leah Earnest | 5’11 F | Senior | Stevens Point
Earnest is averaging 26.9 for her Stevens Point squad. Dropping 41 points against Merrill, Earnest showed she is one of the best scorers in her conference. She consistently grabs boards and gets buckets each time she steps on the floor. Earnest had 33 points against Wisconsin Rapids and 28 against very tough Piux Xi team. She has a very impressive mid range jumper and is extremely effective inside the lane. Earnest is committed to Division 1 Valparaiso.
Ella Diny | 5’9 G | Senior | Wrightstown
Diny is currently averaging 24.8 points per game and is leading her conference in scoring. With a fantastically quick first step, Diny is a struggle to defend. She plays with a high amount of swag and it comes out in the way she finds herself scoring. A flashy move to the basket or a quick fake and go, Diny has a natural ability to score the basketball. She had 34 points against Luxembourg-Casco and 31 against Fox Valley Lutheran and Little Chute. Diny is committed to play collegiate at NAIA Division II Cardinal Stritch.
Jaddan Simmons | 5’9 PG | Senior | Green Bay Southwest
Averaging an easy 25 points per game, Simmons is as versatile as they come. She is ranked #2 in Prep Girls Hoops 2020 rankings. She does is all for her Green Bay Southwest squad and is the go-to for anything offensively. She see’s her open teammates exceptionally well but has a first step that finds many defenders struggling to stay in front. She is everything a coach or teammate would want in a point guard. Simmons has added an outside shooting range to her bag and will take a shot from just about anywhere on the floor. She dropped 42 against a tough West De Pere squad and 35 at De Pere. She also had 26 points against Sheboygan North. Simmons is committed to play at Arizona State University.
