Senior Sela Heide and junior Esmeralda Morales both gave commitments in the last few days and both will be staying on the west coast as most Pacific Northwest girls choose to do.
Sela Heide Headed to Pac-12
2020 6’8 C Sela Heide (Mt. Si HS) was the top available unsigned senior, but she announced via social media that she will be playing for the California Golden Bears next year. Sela’s summer was cut short with a displaced knee cap, but that did not stop some colleges from recruiting the towering center. She will join 6’4 Dalayah Daniels of Garfield High School as a member of California’s 2020 class. Sela has outstanding length and has slowly, but surely improved each year since she started playing competitive basketball midway through middle school. With surgery on her knee, the hope is that she will not have to deal with the knee cap issues that have been bothersome for the last few years. The Pac-12 has several towering players and Sela will keep California up to pace with the trend of height the Pac-12 has seen in recent years.
Bethel’s Junior Star Makes Early Decision
2021 5’5 PG Esmeralda Morales picked up multiple offers after a strong summer with Team Northwest on the EYBL circuit and one of those schools ultimately received a verbal commitment from her. Portland State is Morales’ college destination and this comes as no surprise as the Vikings do an outstanding job of recruiting PNW talent. 7 of the 13 players currently listed on Portland State’s roster are from Washington or Oregon. Morales will bring a slick handle, confidence on the floor and the ability to shoot it from multiple levels. As mentioned before, she was a summer stock riser and continues to impress on the court. Now that her recruitment is taken care of, she can focus in on leading the number one 3A Bethel Braves to a state championship. *Feature image
