I had seen both teams play multiple times earlier this season and figured it would be a pretty evenly matched game, but Mt. Spokane’s home court advantage and defensive intensity in the second half proved to be a little too much in the back and forth battle. Both teams feature Division 1 signees and some solid unsigned players in the 2020 class.
Emma Main Steps Up Once Again
5’6 combo guard Emma Main came in with another big performance for the Mt. Spokane Wildcats. She has now matched up against multiple teams with Division 1 signees and held her own. Emma does not quite possess the height and length of those Division 1 recruits, but her skill set and passion for the game is what separates her in the big moments. Emma has always been able to hit the three ball, but her in between game and attacking off the bounce has gone up to another level. She poured in 19 points in the victory and hustled all over the court. Emma has a decent amount of D3 and NAIA interest with schools like Whitworth and Lewis and Clark State involved and either of those schools would be in good shape if they could pick her up. Emma is one of the better performing unsigned seniors and should see her interest continue to rise. *Feature image
Mt. Spokane’s Defense Locks In
The Wildcat’s vocal and physical leader is Washington signee Jayda Noble. She sets the tone for the team and they followed suit in the second half especially. Central Valley scored just 13 points total in the second half and Jayda’s relentless approach to the game played a big part in that. 2021 6’0 P Grace Neal was physically dominant inside the lane and made her presence felt on the help side. 2021 5’11 SF Tia Allen is a state MVP volleyball player, but her impact on the defensive side of the ball is outstanding. She has great leaping ability and rebounds at a high level. When her and Jayda are on the floor together, Mt. Spokane is in great shape on the glass.
Central Valley’s Stars Need to Get Back to Their Scoring Ways
Winning road games in the GSL is difficult, but almost impossible when the team’s best players have off shooting nights. 2020 5’9 PG Peyton Howard (Seattle U signee) had some really nice moments attacking off the bounce, but she struggled to connect and finished with 6 points. 2021 5’10 SF MJ Bruno (Portland commit) could not get much going on the offensive end either, finishing with just 4 points on the night. If your two D1 recruits combine for 10 points, it will take huge games from multiple other players and Central Valley just did not have that going tonight. All of that being said, they still competed and were in this game until the last couple minutes.
Junior Prospect To Keep An Eye On
2021 6’1 G/F Kyara Sayers is a prospect I have been watching closely this season and she has shown some solid potential. She handles the ball well for her size and she has nice length with a frame that will continue to grow stronger, but she is going to take some time putting it all together. Added strength and physicality will give her game a nice all around boost, but there is some potential there. She has not scored it at a really high rate this season, but she has ran a decent amount of point guard for the Wildcats, which is always impressive at 6’1.
