At the top of the bracket, Rudder vs College Station go at it again after splitting their two District 19 games and I dropped some TAKEAWAYS from the last game as well as some of the top performers which will add a couple of players but it may come down to Rebekah Hailey, Aliyah Collins and Na’layjah Johnson handling the Rudder heat led by Tianna Mathis and those cousins Bryanna Turner and Rakia Lee but this is one of those games that can go either way
The winner will face the Shadow Creek vs Foster winner and let me give a disclaimer, I have not seen Foster this season however I know that Alicia Blanton and Imani Ivery both made Tip Sheets the first time I saw them in middle school and they are the leading scorers for their teams, however, Shadow Creek has been battle-tested in their district beating defending Region 3 champion Hightower twice in District 24 play on their way to not only winning but going 16-0 in their district. I called R’Mani Taylor a #D1Lock in elementary school after watching her DRIBBLE, you can’t teach that and Bre’yon White is DYNOMITE and when I first saw her in the 7th or 8th grade, I said she was exploding to D1 status so there you have it and the initials SC give them the edge
Magnolia West is led by Kamari Portalis and Kamryn Jones and has been on a tear this season winning some big games however finishing runner-up in District 19 has them facing Cedar Park who might be the team to beat in the region. Seniors Hannah Wheeler and Nicole Leff, junior Alisa Knight, sophomore Shelby Hayes, and freshman Gisella Maul, another elementary school player I called a #D1Lock, are all listed among the Top 100 in their various classes on PGH Texas, so that’s FIVE but they have even more and if it wasn’t for logistics, this is definitely a game I’d be catching
I’m not sure if Hightower is at full strength, their senior Big Three of Destini Lombard, Taelour Purvis, and Zaria Johnson are all in the PGH Top 100 and have signed with D1 colleges and I did catch them against fellow District 24 Manvel and dropped a little something. Jordyn Marshall, a PGH Top 100 in the 2022 class has been putting up numbers while another top sophomore guard, Jade Miller, continues to bring heat defensively while also splitting time with Marshall at the one so with both being able to play combo and the strength of Ashlynn Freeman on the inside, this should be a battle and although another one of those sayings that make absolutely no sense to me “it’s hard to beat a team three times” I’m leading towards the Hurricanes
