These are the players who do their damage inside by scoring, rebounding, and defending the rim. This requires a mixture of size, athleticism, and skills that are extremely impressive. Here are Kentucky’s best inside players.
Ta’Ziah Jenks, Mercy- The top challenger to Maddie Scherr‘s spot as the top player in the state, Jenks has had an awesome final season of a great career. She is averaging 19 points and 10 rebounds per game, exactly the kind of numbers you want to see out of an elite big. Jenks has also shown her versatility on the defensive end, defending multiple positions while remaining a presence inside.
Whitney Hay, Elizabethtown- The only movement within the top 5 on this update came courtesy of Hay moving into the top 3. Despite some injury troubles, Hay has put together an outstanding senior season, showing off all of her many offensive skills to average 19.2 ppg. She has the ability to score both inside and out, shooting 52% inside the arc and 38% beyond it making her one of the top overall offensive players in the state.
Malea Williams, Scott County- The skills most people look for in a big are scoring, rebounding, and rim protection. Williams delivers all 3 in abundance. She is averaging 18.9 points and 13.5 rebounds per game, part of more than 1,000 of each for her career. She’s also been one of the top shot blockers in the state, showing that she posses all the traits necessary to be an elite big.
Charlee Settle, Calloway County- Yet another center who excels at both scoring and rebounding on the inside, Settle possesses excellent skills inside. She actually has the top statistical combination of scoring and rebounding on this list with 20.3 points and 13 rebounds per game. She also shows incredible timing inside while using her size and athleticism to block a number of shots, another common trait on this list.
Hannah McKay, Owensboro Catholic- Not quite as traditional a big as others on this list, McKay nonetheless has all the physical traits and skills to be excellent inside, which she is. Her statline of 19.5 points and 9.4 rebounds while shooting an elite 54.8% from the field showcases these abilities. She also has the ability to play on the perimeter and handle the ball as her team’s leader, making her one of the most versatile players on this list and in the state as a whole.
