That’s right, it’s postseason time! We are in the thick of it now with district tournaments coming down to the wire before we see how the new postseason formatting plays out. Here is a recap and a list of key players from last nights semifinal action at Tampa Prep:
Final Score: Brooks DeBartolo 69, Tampa Prep 44
The first and fourth quarters of this game were very competitive. It was 15-14 after one quarter of play before Brooks went on an 11 point run. BDCHS used this momentum in the early 2nd and early 3rd quarters to pull away from Tampa Prep by 30 points. Tampa Prep would play a strong fourth to make the score more respectable, though. Here were some key pieces for each team last night and throughout the season:
Brooks DeBartolo (19-4)
Jaela Davis (2022) – Jaela was the only Phoenix to score in every quarter, and she did a lot of scoring with 23 on the night. She used her speed to get by any defender, and her long range game to hit a few threes.
Julian Trice (2020) – As the lone senior on this team, she is hitting her stride at the right time of the year. Julian controlled the boards as the most talented post in this matchup. The lefty also added 11 points in the big win.
Amarie Godwin (2021) – Amarie distributed the ball very well for a truly balanced team. She added 9 points to go along with her ability to see the floor and take care of the ball for her team.
Triniti Youngblood (2021) – Triniti did a great job on the defensive end and was one of three Phoenix who scored 9 of their own. She’s the whole package and a huge difference maker on this team.
Brionna McClinton (2021) – Bri is a lengthy player which is big for this team in defending the paint and blocking shots. She’s another player on this team that can score from anywhere with 9 in the win.
Brooks DeBartolo moves on to face Carrollwood Day in the Championship game on Friday at Tampa Prep.
Tampa Prep (15-8)
Kailyn Gilbert (2022) – Kailyn was the best player on the floor and showed it by scoring 27 points in the loss. She spent the night being face guarded, double teamed, and trapped. Kailyn is a strong player with a tough work ethic that helps her be able to contribute in every area of the game.
Arianna Mosley (2023) – Ari was the only other Terrapin who scored before the fourth quarter. She hit two 3’s early before slowing down a bit and finishing will 12 points. She’s a lengthy freshman with a lot of potential.
