1. Poly (21-1) Poly has already won the City championship and beat everyone on their schedule except Riverdale Baptist. Dasia Townes (VCU) has led the way with plenty of help from Tenea Robinson, Ajae Petty (LSU), Cache Wilson and others. The city championship is not enough. The Lady Engineers need to close the deal in the 3A championship game.
2. St. Frances (25-3). The Panthers ended another season on top of the IAAM A conference. Angel Reese had another stellar season and Aniya Gourdine emerged as a bona fide go to player. Anani Humpreys saved her best game for the championship game.
3. St. Vincent Pallotti (21-6) The Panthers had a tremendous season but came up short in the IAAM championship game. A host of transfers including Eniya Russell, Vashae Rideout and Lauryn Russell joined Jania Hall to elevate Pallotti to contender status.
4. Howard (21-0) The Lions rolled through their regular season going undefeated en route to another Howard county championship. Seniors Anii Harris and Marisa Sanchez Henry will lead the team into the playoffs in pursuit of that elusive 4A championship.
5. McDonogh (19-7) Junior guard Jayla Oden had an impressive season and her young teammates had her back. Makaela Quimby, Nekhu Mitchell and Paris Locke all had great seasons as well.
6. St. Paul’s (23-3) The Gators closed the deal on their second IAAM B championship in a row. Seniors Destiny Ryles and Alex Sawyers led the way with plenty of help from sophomore Laurie Satchell.
7. Pikesville (19-4) The Panthers won their second straight Baltimore County championship and will try to snatch a 2A title on top of last year’s 1A championship. Senior Charia Roberts and junior Kristen Sterling are both viable candidates for Baltimore County player of the year.
8. Old Mill (18-1) The Patriots wrapped up another Anne Arundel County championship over a tough South River team. Senior Mikiyah Mallett and freshman Amani Watt have been quite a tandem. They have a 4A championship in their sight.
9. Western (16-4) The Doves lost a close one in the City championship game to Poly. If Ny’Ceara Pryor, Gabby Johnson and Mya Henson are in sync, they can make some noise in 4A.
10. Forest Park (17-3) This is a dangerous team that can cause problems for any of the top 10 teams. Danielle Jones, Dominique Billie and Josiah Mickens lead the way, but everyone on this team brings the heat every game.
11. Roland Park (15-8) Led by senior Mir Mclean and junior Sophia Diehl, the Reds had a solid second half of the season.
12. Mt. Carmel (14-14). Mt. Carmel took a loss in the IAAM B conference title game after playing a tough out of conference schedule. Freshman center Hawa Doumbouya looks like a major talent that can anchor the team going forward.
13. Western Tech (17-4) Tech lost to Pikesville in the Baltimore County championship game. They have a trio of guards in Tiffany Manning, Destini Ward and Sydney Stokes than can propel the team in a playoff run. Watch out for them in 1A.
14. River Hill (17-4) Coach Waters is back in the hunt for another championship, this time is 3A. The Hawks are led by seniors Kennedy Clark and Saniha Jackson and came in second in Howard County.
15. St. John’s Catholic Prep ( 15-8) St. John’s had a solid season and pulled off some big wins in the IAAM A conference.
16. South River (16-4) Fresh off a loss in the Anne Arundel County championship game, Coach Zivic will rally the troops for the 4A playoffs. Guards Harley Herndon and Julia Fitzwater will lead the way.
17, Meade (16-4) Meade is small but they are well coached and have guards that can score with anyone in seniors Briel Owens and Symphonie Bryant-Brown.
18. Coppin Academy (15-5) Nyshae Weaver and Kayla Henderson will lead the way into 1A playoff action. Coppin has a real shot at winning it.
19. Reservoir (13-7) Tiffany Hooker is scoring 27 points a game and has exploded for over 30 multiple times. Reservoir goes as she goes. Let’s see what they can do in 3A.
20. Frederick (18-2) Frederick has had a solid season even without Makayla Daniels who is now at Arkansas. Rose Bubakar is up next. Keep and eye on them in 3A.
