Continue ReadingRaven Adams flirted with a double-double last night as the talented junior helped lead Ridgepoint Panthers to a victory over Seven Lakes and they move into the Sweet 16 in R3 6A where they will meet Bellaire. Adams and Aleighyah Fontenot were leading scorers with 15 each while Dala Allen also made it into double digits with 12. Allen also did a good job on the board, on both ends and a knockout 3 from Fontenot changed the momentum of the game as Seven Lakes was making a run. Ridgepoint withstood another run as UNSIGNED senior Marchelle Willis came up with a huge steal and converted that into an assist and speaking of assists, I came into the game with a crook in my neck, as opposed to the numerous ones lying to parents about their “resumes on what they do or have done” but Adams numerous no-look passes has my neck back to normal
Aleighyah Fontenot attacking against Lily BaumgardnerHow good is Ridgepoint? Well that’s kind of the million-dollar question as they’re getting closer to the schools first regional semifinal but it won’t be easy as Bellaire has got to be one of the surprise teams in the Sweet 16 because I did not see that coming but they are scrappy and will bring plenty of heat so the Panthers will have to be clicking on all cylinders and they can because I’ve said this numerous times since I first called Adams a #D1Lock when she was in the 5th grade, she’s a legitimate one that makes those around her better and while fellow juniors Fontenot and Allen are playoffs proven, I’m sure all of the team understands that they have the talent that can get it done
Seven Lakes put up a fight, they played the Panthers a lot closer than I anticipated and stayed within striking distance however when you figure this squad with the exception of one player will be back next season and with the pipeline that’s coming, you’re going to be hearing a lot about this squad over the next few years. Lily Baumgardner had some big moments while Daniela Alzate keeps showing me that pull-up jumper in traffic is legit but the biggest surprise was the improvement from IB Afolabi from when I saw her in the Katy Classic. You can’t teach effort, nor heart and her sheer desire to battle as well as rebound and finish was only superseded by her facing the basket for numerous buckets
