I spent the weekend with the Minnesota North Stars. No, not the long-departed hockey team of that name. I’m talking about the North Stars of Minnesota girls basketball – Grace Kirk, Gianna Kneepkens, Katie Borowicz, Taya Hakamaki and the super seniors from Proctor High School. Man, did they ever shine!

My tour began Friday evening at the Marshall School in Duluth where Kirk and Kneepkens played host to Borowicz and her Roseau Rams. It continued Saturday afternoon in Proctor where Roseau completed its southern swing against the Rails. We concluded Saturday night, another hour and change to the north in Mountain Iron, where the Cromwell Cardinals faced Mountain Iron-Buhl in the latest edition of one of Northern Minnesota’s top rivalries. On Monday we offered up our version of the Cromwell-MIB game – you can read it here – and today we bring you some thoughts on the other top performers we saw Up North.
