Before the tournament begins, it is important to note the top players to look out for. Here are the biggest names in the Cape-Atlantic League entering their postseason tournament.
Marianna Papazoglou (2021) | Wildwood Catholic
Papazoglou might have had the best statistical season in the conference. She is averaging 18.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game this season. Papazoglou has scored in double-figures in 22 out of 23 games this season and has eight double-doubles. She turned in the rare high school triple-double with 21 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists in a win over Holy Spirit. She is a main reason that Wildwood Catholic is 20-3 and the top seed in the tournament.
Kylee Watson (2020) | Mainland
Watson will hope to finish up what was an incredible high school career with a tournament championship. Watson is the No. 1 ranked player in New Jersey and will be playing at one of the top collegiate programs in the nation next season. The future Oregon Duck has dominated on the floor this season. The 6’3 Watson is the type of player that can lead fourth-seeded Mainland all the way.
Gabby Turco (2020) | Wildwood Catholic
Turco is the other main reason for Wildwood Catholic’s success this season. She is scoring 15.7 points per game and 7.2 rebounds. Turco has 20 games with 10 or more points including seven with 20 or more. In her senior season, Turco has scored from all over the floor including 34 made three’s. Turco and Papazoglou make up a duo that will be tough to beat in the postseason.
Kira Sides (2020) | Middle Township
Sides will lead a 19-4 Middle Township squad against Mainland. If there is a player who can hope to slow down Watson, it is Sides. She is averaging 18.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Sides has 12 games in double-figures this season including a 33 point performance in a two point loss to Wildwood Catholic. Middle Township will enter the tournament as the No. 5 seed with hopes of pulling off an upset.
Cea’anai Jackson (2022) | Atlantic Tech
Jackson has had a major sophomore season. The 6’3 forward is averaging 15 points this season and has some monstrous games. She posted 22 points and 27 rebounds in a win over Vineland and 21 points and 21 rebounds in a December victory over Newark Academy. She has a bright future in the Cape-Atlantic League and she can really begin to make a name for herself with a win or two in this season’s tournament.
Haleigh Schafer (2021) | Absegami
It was a successful season for Absegami with a 15-8 record. They have the bad luck of facing Wildwood Catholic in the first round. Schafer is scoring 18.9 points per game in her junior season. She has scored 24 or more points in Absegami’s last four games. She turned in a season-high 35 points in a 55-35 win over Millville in January.
