Father McGivney will face Carrollton in one semi final and the home team will go against #3 ranked Jacksonville Routt in the other semi final. Here are some of the players to watch:
- Madison Webb is a 5’9 2020 forward from Father McGivney. Madison excels in the lane, often posting up players 3-4 inches taller. She is also a very capable catch and shoot player with range beyond the 3 point line. Madison has consistently led the team in scoring and rebounding down the stretch.
- Anna McKee is a 5’8 2021 guard from Father McGivney. Anna excels on defense, using her length and anticipation to get steals. Playing at the top of their zone/press she is often able to turn defense into offense. Anna can get hot from behind the 3-point line and if she does this offers another dimension to their attack that is a big part of what they do.
- Macy Hoppes is a 5’5 2020 guard from Father McGivney that is the quarterback of their team. If Macy can run the show and limit her turnovers the Lady Griffins win most of their games. Macy is capable of scoring but brings her most value by stuffing the stats with assists, rebounds in their zone and steals.
- Libby Mueth is a 5’7 2020 guard from Carrollton. Libby is a smooth offensive player that can fill it up if she gets the chance. She is adept at scoring both inside and out. Libby does a good job of taking what the game gives her. She does not force shots and is a willing passer if the good looks are not there.
- Ava Uhles is a 6’0 2021 post from Carrollton. Ava is an a big, strong post that will surprise many teams with her ability to play away from the lane. She can hit the 3-point shot and will also put the ball on the floor. It is not uncommon to see her grab a defensive rebound and then take off with her dribble to lead the break. She is more agile than you might think and can take it coast to coast.
- Kylie Kisner is a 6’0 2023 forward from Carrollton. Kylie has become a weapon for the Lady Hawks as her freshman season has progressed. She can play in the post and also on the wing facing up. Kylie has a nice shot that she will hit consistently out to 15 feet. She also runs the floor well where she can finish on the move.
- Bella McCartney is a 5’10 2020 forward from Jacksonville Routt. Bella has been a consistent force in the paint for Routt all season. She is strong and agile with good footwork which allows her to get position and get her shots off quickly in good spots. Bella can work away from the basket too, creating driving angles against taller players. She has a high motor and will out work taller players to control the boards on both ends.
- Sydney Walker is a 5’10 2020 forward from Jacksonville Routt. Sydney is an under appreciated part of the Routt lineup. With others drawing more attention she quietly goes about scoring 7 points per game and leading the team in rebounding at 9 per game. Sydney is more than capable of getting double figures as the defenses concentrate on stopping other options.
- Lacey Schierl is a 5’8 2020 guard from Jacksonville Routt. Lacey is the second leading scorer at 9.6 per game and the leading 3-point threat on the team. She has hit 41 3-pointers for the season and must be accounted for on each trip down the floor if you want to stop Routt.
- Kamryn Pieron is a 6ft 2020 forward from CORL. Kamryn has dealt with an injury in the second half of the season that has caused her to miss some games. Now that she seems to be fully recovered this is a big boost for the team. She scores 15 points per game for the Lady Silver Stallions, but is also a force defensively. Kamryn is an accomplished volleyball player and uses those skills and timing to block shots. During the Regional she got 5 blocks per game and controls the paint.
- Lily McKinney is a 2023 guard from CORL. Lily has been starting down the stretch and has provided a consistent scoring punch for the Lady Silver Stallions. During the Regional tourney she led the team in scoring each game and hit the big game winning shot down the stretch in the championship to get by Calhoun.
This should be a very competitive Sectional. Each team came into the year thinking they could make a long run and now it is time to step up. Routt would have to be considered the favorite but a hot hand can give any team a shot. The Father McGivney vs Carrollton game should be a battle just as it was two weeks ago. This one will be fun to watch.
