These teams we have watched multiple times this year and we are impressed with what type of floor game they play, the coaching they received and how the kids play hard at every waking moment on the floor. Here we go with our favorites in this division that we think can either win a title or make it to the finals.
Sierra Canyon HS: comes in with an overall record of (24-4) and a record of (6-0) in the Gold Coast League; they are led by Seniors Vanessa De Jesus, Ashley Chevalier, Alexis Mark, Rosemary Odebunmi and Vanessa Smart. This team is dangerous and our favorite to win the Open Division, but it is not going to be easy for them to walk thru teams. This team will have to be good every night, because the other Open teams are going to show up with their A games each and every night.
Mater Dei HS: comes in with an overall record of (26-2) and a record of (7-1) in the Trinity League; they are led by Senior Kamryn Keirnan, juniors Alyssa Frescas, Brooke Demetre, Meaali’i Amosa as well as freshman Caia Elisaldez. Mater Dei is a machine, they always find a way to win with their solid system. The girls are never panicked and they will execute the game plan right down to the buzzer in any close game. They are a dark-horse team for us in this Open Division this year, anyone can beat anyone on any given night.
Windward HS: comes in with an overall record of (22-4) and a record of (5-1) in the Gold Coast League; they are led by Seniors McKayla Williams and Ally Lopez as well as freshman Judea Watkins. Windward is dangerous, the freshman Watkins is an assassin and she is quite the player, athletic, crafty, long and lanky and can score from all three levels on the floor. Williams is the leader and keeps the team calm, she is quite the all-around player herself, they will make some waves in this Open Division playoff.
Long Beach Poly HS: comes in with an overall record of (24-4) and a record of (12-0) in the Moore League; they are led by Seniors Ashlee Lewis, Iyanna Lamb and Kaci Scott, juniors Kalaya Buggs and Lily Buggs and a casts of others. Poly has beat everyone that was supposed to be ranked above them at the beginning of the season. They are really good at making you play their game and dictating the tempo of the contest. I expect Coach Buggs to figure out his opponents and beat them at their own game, again. Expect Poly to be in the Championship game of the Open Division.
