Class 3A State Championship: Master’s vs. Carrollwood Day – Saturday @ 10am
Both 1A games were exciting throughout, and you can see by the similar scores that we should have a competitive title game.
Florida Prep won easily in the first one as the 2A favorite, and Keswick had a chance to beat FAMU in the second game if they didn’t shoot 13 for 53 with 33 turnovers.
The 3A overtime game was the best one of the day. Master’s was down 13 with 2 minutes left before going on a huge run that lasted through OT. This ended a six year title reign of MCDS. Carrollwood Day made easy work of SSE in the last game of the night.
Here are some standout players from Day 1:
3A
Milahnie Perry, CDS, C/O 2022 – Milahnie led her team in scoring with 14 points, and she also added 7 assists and 3 steals in a statement win. She’s stepped up as a starter with her sister, Maliyah, playing limited minutes with an injury.
Tiasia McMillan, CDS, C/O 2020 (Colgate commit) – Tiasia scored 12 points on 5 of 6 shooting and added 7 boards against SSE. The height of CDS was way too much for St. Stephen’s.
Nabaweeyah McGill, CDS, C/O 2020 (Texas A&M Corpus Christi commit) – Weeyah had a similar stat line to Tiasia with 12 points and 7 boards with a bonus of 3 steals. These bigs are so balanced when you add Ary Dizon and her 12 points into the mix.
Aaliyah Irizarry, TMA, C/O 2020 (Furman commit) – She took over late in the game as a veteran should. Aaliyah couldn’t be stopped attacking the hoop or shooting outside. Her line was 23 points and 8 rebounds in a historic victory for Master’s.
Kiara Harris, TMA, C/O 2023 – This Freshman class for Master’s is unreal. The Big 3 2023’s did not sit a single second in this contest. Kiara had 15 points and 5 dimes in the dramatic OT win.
Hannah Kohn, TMA, C/O 2023 – Hannah was the highest scoring Freshman with 17 points, and she even led the team in rebounding with 11 for a tremendous double-double.
Chloe Kitts, TMA, C/O 2023 – Chloe is the leading scorer on this team, but she didn’t have her best shooting night. She still put up 11 points with 6 assists which shows how valuable she is even when that shot isn’t falling. She’s got the most potential as a Freshman with her frame and some nifty moves she displayed.
Sydney Shaw, MCDS, C/O 2022 – Syd showed some real leadership in this tough loss. She finished with 16 points, 9 boards, 5 assists, and 4 steals. She once again showed on a big stage why she is one of the top Sophomores in the state.
Milani McCormack, MCDS, Unsigned 2020 – Milani was not afraid to let it fly. She scored her 15 points on 3’s only. I liked her energy and she crashed the boards hard with 7 of them. Without a doubt, she can contribute at the next level.
2A
Sydney Jackwin, KCS, C/O 2022 – As the only returning starter for next season, Sydney was the best player on her team in the semi’s. She’s incredibly athletic (amazing volleyball player), and she had a line of 11 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 assists. She did everything she could to give her team a chance.
Ameari Logan, FAMU, C/O 2022 – This Baby Rattlers team is very balanced with 3 girls that posted double-doubles. Ameari was the most impressive with 13 and 10 and even had 3 steals/assists.
Emma Risch, Florida Prep, C/O 2023 – Emma is arguably the top Freshman in the state, and she continued to make that case on day 1. She was the top scorer on the first day with 25 points on 5 of 7 shooting from behind the arch. Her ceiling is sky high with offers already coming in.
1A
Amani Jones, PSJ, C/O 2022 – Amani was one of two Sharks that posted a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds on efficient shooting. One of the most impressive numbers was that she didn’t turn it over at all, but had 5 blocks and 4 steals in a gritty win.
Antania Mason, Hawthorne, C/O 2020 – This Hawthorne team is very balanced, but I was most impressed with Antania as a leader. She led the way with 14 points, 6 boards, and 3 steals with an impressive come-from-behind win.
Akiela Farrow, Holmes County, C/O 2021 – TRIPLE-DOUBLE. That’s right, she notched a triple-double with 12 points, 15 rebounds, and 12 blocks. Talk about rejection, my goodness. It was a tough loss for a talented Blue Devils team.
Kinzie Nelson, Holmes Country, C/O 2020 – Kinzie is one of the best 1A players in the state, and she proved it by posting a 17 point/17 rebound double-double. She’s had a phenomenal HS basketball career that saw a lot of individual and team success.
