Eastern Kansas League (EKL)
Bishop Miege, Blue Valley, Blue Valley North, Blue Valley Northwest, Blue Valley Southwest, Blue Valley West, Mill Valley, St. James, St. Thomas Aquinas.
Vania Barnett, G, 2021, Mill Valley
An athletic guard with good length and athleticism. Barnett is good in a press and uses her speed to her advantage as a defensive player as she comes away with the ball and can go coast-to-coast and score. She has a nice 3-pointer as well, looking to connect whenever she has an open shot. She plays the point position and can push the tempo and distribute the ball well but also looks to create openings in score when she has the look or the open lane.
Paige Craft, 5’8, G, 2021, Blue Valley North
A strong guard who has great court awareness and good handles and control. Craft brings a terrific combination of speed, strength and creativity to the floor which makes it difficult to slow down when she has the ball in her hands. She can connect from 3-point range. Craft has a clear advantage in one-on-one situations given her live handle and twitchy nature which can fake out opponents.
Megan Edwards, 5’7, G, 2021, Blue Valley Northwest
A scoring guard for Northwest who can create with her dribble and get inside and score. She’s at her best from 3-point range, able to shoot from the wing and top of the key with confidence. She can find separation through her dribble or off the ball. She is a motion player who uses fakes and other moves to get space. Edwards also shows up on the opposite end of the floor. She plays good defense on the perimeter and can stay with opponents and looks to contest shots and keep them away from the ball.
Amiah Simmons, 5’8, G, 2021, Blue Valley Southwest
A fast guard with an electric first step, Simmons looks to keep the offense running as she pushes a ball up the floor. She can handle the ball well and has good instincts and understands how to weave through defenses and get open looks in transition. Simmons can get a bucket whenever she needs to as she has a nice 3-point shot and can stop on a dime and pull up for a jumper. Simmons has good athleticism as well, a run-and-gun style player who makes her best decisions going full speed and downhill.
Katherine Weigel, SG, 2021, Mill Valley
Weigel has a strong frame and a playmakers mentality. She has a good first step and looks to score high percentage shots in transition or a few feet near the glass. She’s spry in open space and can handle the ball when defenders are on her and looking to force a turnover. She gets her shot off well in unlikely situations and shows toughness in full court situations as a defender.
