Fast forward to watching her play post in the 4th grade to one of the areas top long ball shooters as a junior has been a ride but always remember, I love progression. I was at the Sandra Meadows Classic when she dropped 8 on her way to 40 but I wasn’t there to witness the 9 she made against Cy Fair to help lead them to a 69-63 victory which sends Ridgepoint to their first-ever regional semifinal. Fontenot went over the 1000 point mark for her career earlier this season and that win has them going against Clear Springs featuring Niyah Johnson and that sophomore guard tandem of Kylie Minter and Kenna Gibson at 6 pm tomorrow in the Campbell Center. Raven Adams (17) and Marchelle Willis (13) also scored in double figures to go along with Fontenot’s 28 while Cy Fair was lead in scoring by sophomore Olaia Arenas (17) followed by Oriana Gee (15) and Paige Gerold (13)
Summer Creek also moved into the semifinals with a 70-60 win over Beaumont United who, along with Cy Fair, made impressive runs in this season’s playoffs. In what I billed as “The Battle Of The Creeks” Summer Creek, the defending regional champ has to face undefeated Cypress Creek, the year before last regional champ and this should be an epic battle as Maliyah Johnson (Texas A&M) Mailyn Wilkerson (Trinity Valley) and Adaora Nwokeji are among their top players and on the other side of the Creek, Cypress’ Kyndall Hunter is coming off of 30 plus game against Heights and that long ball is looking nice from view at Merrell. Rori Harmon, Morgan Hill (Louisiana Monroe) and Taylor Jackson all scored in double figures so I’ll be there early and leave late as I catch all of the double-header and will finish with the 5A Regional Championship on Saturday
