Four Standout Players:
Erin Toller (Sacred Heart)
University of Kentucky signee started off slow in their semifinal matchup against Ryle but it started clicking for her in the second half. The senior guard finished with 16 points and 9 rebounds. For her size it is quite impressive to see her down-low getting rebounds with the bigs. As usual, Toller shoots the ball really well. She drilled 4 of her 8 attempts from behind the arc. The duo of Erin Toller and Radford signee Destinee Marshall are fun to watch and I believe they will be leading this team to a huge run in March.
Kennedy Lee (Manual)
The sophomore forward didn’t do a whole lot in the scoring category as she finished with 8 points. But she managed to gather a plethora of rebounds as she snagged 20 rebounds. She is long and very physical on the inside. She out worked a lot of Mercy players when it came to rebounding the ball. Manual has been on a roll lately and a huge reason why is the incredible play of Kennedy Lee. Lee will be a player to keep an eye on for the next two years in the state of Kentucky. Manual is in a very tough region with Sacred Heart and Christian Academy-Louisville, but they are starting to play great basketball as of late.
Maddie Scherr (Ryle)
The Oregon signee played a terrific overall game for Ryle, despite the loss to Mercy. She finished with 21 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists. She used her good size and speed to get in the inside and draw fouls. She went to the line 11 times and hit 10 of them. The current favorite to win Miss Kentucky Basketball put up triple-double like numbers. In order for Ryle to make a run at repeating as State Champions, Scherr needs to put up these kind of numbers. A couple of young players stepped up for Ryle today which is a good sign moving forward.
Ta’Ziah Jenks (Mercy)
The West Virginia signee has been showing out in all of the LIT games. In their loss to Manual, she finished with 26 points and 14 rebounds. She was a monster on the glass and used her length/aggressiveness to get to the free throw line. She went 12/14 from the line in this game. She did however have two opportunities to tie up the game with seconds remaining. She rushed both of the layups and missed. She could’ve given her team the chance to go into overtime or win the game. Mercy is on the right path, they just came up short in this one. They are still my pick to come out of the 6th region.
