Continue ReadingThe stage was set and couldn’t have been more scripted as the defending R-3 Champion in 6A Summer Creek was battling the previous years regional champ Cypress Creek and with a star-studded line-up on both teams, that stadium was packed, sort of and when you have Connecticut, Arkansas, and Baylor on hand, that’s a C A B of BCS programs that were there for the ride and the Cougars did not disappoint and here are top players
Summer Creek
Maliyah Johnson-the Texas A&M signee scored her 9 points on a variety of shots by either slashing to the basket or several put backs, but she also faced the basket to score. At 6’3, she’s always showed she was hard to contain and when she added the three-ball over her career, that made her an even bigger threat on the offensive end
Tyanna Sherman-came off of the bench to score 11 points giving her back to back games where she has come in and done some damage offensively. Her effort on the inside has been consistent all season and she will not be outworked
Adaora Nwokeji-one of the best defensive guards in the area, her ability to react and get back into position is second to none and that speaks volumes, but she also attacked the basket for buckets and that stop and pop going full speed is priceless
Cypress Creek
Kyndall Hunter-she’s adding exclamation points to everything I said she would be and my new proclamation is that she has been virtually unstoppable the last two games I’ve seen her. That three is barely touching the net, her athleticism and strength going to the basket relentlessly and at will makes her an and one waiting to happen, that’s the old fashion three and she scored her number 22
Rori Harmon-well I guess an exclamation needs to be placed here as well because her zig-zagging through the defense, her crossover and her step back are all weapons that are hard to contain, not to mention the threading of the needle on her no-look passes but the game has, and always will start at the one and this backcourt tandem of her and Hunter are interchangeable and one of the best this area has ever seen and one of the best in the country, oh yeah, she wears #3 and scored 13
Morgan Hill-I’m overly impressed on the player she has become and Louisiana Monroe will definitely feel an immediate impact from her. Long and athletic, she’s on those boards like a woman possessed and finishing strong but guess what, she ain’t finished and she could help lead her team to an undefeated season, you know what that means. Oh, she wears #5 and scored 15
Taylor Jackson– they call her TJ, well I do and it should be reversed because she has been playing JUST TOUGH and I’m really pleased with her progression. She’s finishing on the inside as well as rebounding on both ends, not to mention running the court and although her number is 32, she scored 9, okay what’s 3 times 3, no what else is it, it’s her, Hunter and Harmon will be back next season, it ain’t over
