North Polk downs a hot shooting Roland-Story
North Polk got off to a slow start on Friday night due to a hot shooting Roland-Story coming into town. In the first quarter, Roland-Story hit 5-of-7 from behind the arc. North Polk stayed with Roland-Story however as the halftime score was 26-23 in favor of the hosts. Roland-Story hit 7-of-11 shots from behind the arc and only made one shot inside the perimeter in the first half. North Polk came out of the half and blitzed Roland-Story with a 16 point outburst in the third quarter spurred by senior Jaedon Murphy and freshman Makayla Boatman. Drake commit Maggie Phipps had just six points in the game but Murphy scored 20 and Boatman scored 15 points. Roland-Story was led by Amy Rathmacher with 12 points on 4-of-5 from behind the arc. North Polk made the second half look simple in a 55-42 win over Roland-Story.
Bishop Garrigan takes out West Hancock
Bishop Garrigan had not beaten West Hancock in over four years but on Friday night they handed one of the favorites to win the 2A state title their first loss on the year, 55-54. Earlier this season West Hancock took down Bishop Garrigan 56-55 and the game last time once again lived up to the billing. Bishop Garrigan is playing at a very high level this year and taking down West Hancock is a huge win for them. Freshman sensation Audi Crooks had 34 points to lead her team to the win. Do not be surprised if these two teams are playing in the 1A and 2A state championship at the end of the year.
Can anyone stop Iowa City High
Last night City High routed Prairie as Iowa State commit Aubrey Joens nailed nine 3-pointers and set the City High single-game record for most makes in a game. Joens started off hitting her first seven shots from beyond the arc and finished her night with 31 points. City High had a 23 point lead at the half and didn’t let up much in the second half as they marched to an 85-53 win. As it stands right now, it doesn’t look like anyone will be able to take down Iowa City High with how they are playing. Look for them to make a very deep run in the state tournament this year.
